Good Local Food

This was a great choice for trying local Hawaiian cuisine. It is crowded for good reason: the food is very good. My companion ordered a big soup that is so similar to those offered in so many Asian cuisines. Hers was full of seafood and noodles and a very flavorful broth. She informed our... read more

Wow - we stopped here for breakfast and there was s line waiting. We were told that the food was delicious and large portions. The pancakes were huge! I tried the local French toast on Hawaiian sweet bread - so yummy! The bacon was very under cooked (I suppose that is how the locals like it) so if you like... More

This is a favourite of ours, try to go there everytime we're here on the Big Island. It was busy when we arrived & got busier. Lots of locals here, a good sign I'd say. We were seated promptly & after a lot of indecision we put our orders in. There are so many choices, both American style food &... More

A very popular lunch spot with both American and traditional Hawaiian dishes. Our party of six adults and a three-year-old had a variety of dishes, all good (particularly the Korean Ribs and the Fish & Chips). Then we ordered a piece of the Mud Pie for dessert. With all of us working on it, there was still some left over... More

Awesome fish! Lightly breaded and light, fresh, white fish!! Some of the best I've ever had. Mile high ice cream pie.

Living, as i do, in Kailua Kona, I come to the Big Island Grill fairly often. On the third page of thei menu they present island favorites. Among these are some of the most toothsome meals yu will find anywhere. Teriyaki beef and chicken and roast pork are among my favorites. They have put together a loco moco with fries... More

This is a basic diner type restaurant. The seating/ambiance is what you can find in any diner. The plates were large and full of food that was average at best. Nothing memorable or exciting from this dining experience. Average breakfast that did not make us feel like we had to come back.

Tired of tourists traps and fast food. This was the perfect quiet local joint for some homestyle cooking after the tourist experience on the Big Island. Adult and kids meals were great.

We were driving through the area and just wanted something light for dinner. My husband had the fried chicken and I had the chicken teriyaki salad. My salad was ample and satisfying; my husband's chicken was okay, but they were very small pieces of chicken. He expected the wing to be small, but the thigh and the breast wasn't much... More
