I ate at Tres Hombres several times in the early 90's. It was good, but not always consistent. I returned deciding to give it a try as a decade had past since my last visit. We located the restaurant and was upset because the entire restaurant is currently closed for renovation for several months. The location itself would have provided for a gorgeous sunset. I guess I'll never know because we aren't sure when we'll return to Kailua-Kona. more

I live in Kailua Kona and am originally from Southern Cal. Southern California has great Mexican food and I knew it would be a challenge to find anything as good in Kona. That is an understatement!! My new husband and I are on our honeymoon and we stopped because we both love Mexican food. The atmosphere is terrible! Spotlights and plastic chairs, so when the sun goes down all you have is a glaring spotlight in your face! And the service was deplorable! My husband asked the waiter for a Michalobe beer and the waiter replied... more
