May bit a bit hard to find but consistently excellent sushi for a reasonable price. On a one way alley (right hand side of Sarona off Alii Drive). Normally about a 30 to 45 minute wait for your food and very little outside area for seating but definitely worth the wait. We usually stop by and order, run a few... More

My husband and I were so very disappointed we waited until our last day on the Big Island to visit Hyashi's. He had been umpteen times about a decade before when he lived on the big island and we knew this was on our list of "must go to's." The rolls are just as great as he remembered, as are... More

The place is very basic (a little hidden shack behind other buildings) and you eat outside on garden tables. The restaurant is run by an older Japanese couple. Every Sushi I had was big, delicious, and affordable. One major heads up: they roll every sushi in sesame seeds... Everyone around me had a good laugh looking at the guy removing... More

Definitely order ahead by finding menu online. Great value! Otherwise crowds will keep you away! Location is tucked away on a one way street off of Alii Dr. Kailua Kona. Do a google map. Parking is past place in the back.

This well hidden, take-out sushi stand is well worth the hunt, especially if you are hungry or on a budget. It is no frills, but you can design your own roll or choose one of their most popular ones. Most rolls are under $6 and very large. There are a few outside tables, but nothing fancy. They close at 6pm.

I like that you can make your own sushi roll the way you want it and it's affordable. The wait is always well worth it. Perfect for after school for the kids or when call in an order for lunch.....

Take the time to find this place. Across from Sam's bar, up the alley way from the tattoo place. No place to eat inside and a few tables outside. Fair price and extensive options. They close at 6 PM so go early.

They are busy and closed when they feel like it. Act like they are doing you a favor just to sell you some sushi. Their face would break if they cracked a smile, god forbid!

Great sushi. No place to sit inside. Barely enough room for 2 adults to stand inside. There are a few tables outside. This is the kind of place that you order to go and take it back to your room. Good value.

Kailua-Kona is a very touristy kind of town, the restaurants there reflect this. Hayashi's/ You Make The Roll differs from this mould. Don't let the exterior deceive you. This place is the hidden gem of Kailua. There isn't a large seating area and the interior is just an ordering counter and drink fridges mixed with a bit of a funky-fresh... More
