Great Stop during High Altitude Promenade Walk

We stopped here for a warm drink and a snack while walking from the Sonnkogelbahn to the Schmittenhohebahn lifts on a rather cloudy and overcast day. The open fire in the was really welcoming. Food and hot drinks were really good with a friendly welcome.

I had lunch here twice during my recent ski trip. I've hardly felt more civilized in my entire life, which is not to say Hochzeller-Alm is fancy. Most of the other huts I encountered on Schmitten tended to have a more modern feel and seemed geared toward the dance on the bar in your ski boots crowd. Hochzeller has a... More

Absolutely love this alm. The staff are a breath of fresh air. Food is amazing Austrian cuisine as you would expect to get but the turkey strip fitness salad is the freshest tastiest thing since sliced bread unless they have their grilled chicken on special. Then the chicken is a must being both delicious and great value! You can not... More

Good and tasty goulash soup for reasonable price. The location is nice between Schmittenhöhe and Sonnkogelbahn. The service was little bit rude, when we asked for tap water. Instead of telling us that they don't have drinkable tap water up there, he started to complain that not anywhere in Austria you can't get tap water for free in restaurant, that... More

My wife and I are both vegetarians and were delighted with the range of savoury and sweet dishes which revived us after our hike up the mountain from Zell am See! We were so delighted that we went back two more times. The manager recognised us on our second visit, and by the third we were being treated as old... More

Oliver's Hochzeller Alm is THE place to visit when you summit SchmittenHohe in summer or in winter. Have the Grostel or the Wurst nockerl, before you start your descent.

It seems that the better the location the worse the service. Whilst you could not fault the quality of the food there was a sense of getting you in and out which I didn't experience in other restaurants. A couple of restaurants charged for hot water, including this one so that kind of hints to the attitude I refer to.... More

A group of us ate in Hochzeller-Alm last week. We loved the food but the reason this mountain restaurant appealed to us so much was the comfort and space and also the waiter who was fabulously flamboyant. He encouraged us to try some of his Mother's incredible deserts and cakes but the only one we chose was a light coco... More

The location is only a 30 second ski from the top of the mountain and it's a really cosy, authentic wooden building. The staff are all really helpful and friendly and the quality of food and drinks is excellent. Prices are very reasonable too. In bad weather, when the outside decking is not an option, it can get really crowded... More

after a walk, arrive here, pull up a deckchair, take in the superb views and let Oliver take you through the menu. I can recommend the Tiroler Grostl for a filling lunch.
