In a country where it is almost impossible to eat badly, this turned out to be the only disappointing culinary experience of our holiday. We have eaten regularly at the Steinewirt on all our holidays in Austria over the last 7 years, and have found it to be generally very pleasant in the past. The story was somewhat different this... The Steinerwirt offers the traditional Austrian cusine but with a more modern twist. I had the lamb (mostviertler lammhaxe) and it was superb! So tender and tastefull. My friends were also happy with their food. The creme brulee however was terrible - more like a pudding. We complained and the waiter was very understanding and offered another dessert. We refused,... More

I've read some reviews on tripadvisor prior to visitting this restaurant and did expect more to be honest. however, Solid portions and quick service, but nothing to special! I had a chicken Vienna style - basically chicken fried as a snitzel, ordered a carpaccio for a starter, which tastes watery. But nice staff and quick service.

We are staying in Zell am See for a week and so far have eaten twice at this restaurant - once for lunch (sat outside) and once for dinner (weather cooler and showery, so sat inside). On both occasions the food has been excellent and the service faultless. The traditional Austrian menu is varied and extremely good value. Overall highly... More

Could not fault the food, always a good sign when all the locals are eating in it and most tables were taken.

We looked for a restaurant last weekend 26.04 and because it was between the ski season and the start of the spring season, most places were closed. The Steinerwirt was one of the few that were open. We were in a side room of this traditional Austrian restaurant, and it had a wonderful atmosphere with old benches and tiled oven.... More

I have eaten here many times- usually in a family or large group. Love the food, the service and even though a bit pricey it is worth it. They also have a lovely kids room open until 9pm so u can enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the meal.

We popped in here for dinner during a two night stay in Zell. It is very old fashioned which we liked as there is a lot of character. The room we were in had some other diners but would have benefitted from some light music just to ensure conversations were not overheard but this is my only slight criticism. The... More

The food was extremely tasty and the servers were all fantastic, they make sure you have an excellent time. The second dining room felt slightly like an eating hall rather than a restaurant, with little décor and not great amounts of atmosphere, however the service made up for it. We only ate there once out of the week, as the... More

Thank you very much for recommending us - we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your time at our restaurant. I'm glad you liked the food and the service - as for the dining room: We have been making plans to adapt that room as well, so when you visit Zell am See next time, we might have... More

Didn't really know how to rate this one... One one hand - service, food and prices were not bad at all, very helpful stuff, good selection of local wines (really good ones), large menu featuring Austrian traditional dishes... all seems nice. I took a steak, it was ok (not great, but ok - really made in a local way). I... More

Thank you very much for your thoughtful words. Your review really started a very interesting discussion among us: On one hand, Steinerwirt is a very traditional restaurant, which attracts locals and guests alike. On the other hand, we do see ourselves somewhat as ambassadors of Austrian cuisine and wine. This is a very thin line we have to balance, being... More
