I have had the pleasure of eating in the State Game Lodge dining room for twenty years. The food is very good, especially if you are interested in prepared game. My favorite thing about this dining room is the history, as the lodge was once the summer White House of Calvin Coolidge. Old photos hang on the walls, and the... More

We ate there a couple of nights during our recent stay for the buffalo roundup. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent. Many of the staff positions are filled by international workers and they worked hard to please. I got the buffalo filet mignon medium rare and may very well have been best buffalo I have had... More

My tour group stopped here for lunch during an all day tour. The food was great and the service was quick. Be sure to try the buffalo stew. Was the best stew and possibly best cooked buffalo I ever had and very filling. There's a gift shop as well for any last minute souvenirs.

We recently returned from a trip to the black Hills with two other couples. We spent a day at Custer State Park which was a wonderful experience to see God's handiwork in nature. Dinner that evening was at the Game Lodge restaurant. The building itself is quite unpretentious, blending in with the colors of nature. Inside were some fireplaces made... More

We ate there on a Saturday morning -- arriving just as the breakfast menu/buffet was being taken down and just prior to the luncheon buffet being available. We ordered (breakfast) from the menu. Both of us enjoyed are entrees very much. Most importantly, our server (I'm sorry not to have her name) was attentive and efficient -- and extremely knowledgeable... More

In an area that will probably never be known for its culinary expertise, the food at State Game Lodge was very, very good. We ate there two evenings and had good meals both times. The dining room has paneling, lighting and historic photographs that give it a nice ambience. The service the first night was very good, the second not... More

I liked it. Eggs, bacon, sausage, tators galore and more. Yes, a little pricy, but worth it, especially if you're hungry! We came in at the tail end of the the time and I asked for more sausage gravy for the bisquits and they came up with it. Was intrigued that most of the wait staff were out of state... More

My wife and I enjoyed two meals at the State Game Lodge. The dark paneled formal dining room is absolutely charming if you like craftsman architecture and history. Among the outdoor themed artwork in the formal dining room is a photograph of former first lady Grace Coolidge holding a pet raccoon. The more informal area is beautiful, too. Glass etchings... More

We arrived at the restaurant at an odd time. Between the last of the lunch service and before dinner. When we made our way up the stairs to the front door there were a lot of people gathered on the porch visiting and talking. They stopped and just stared at us so for a second we thought we might be... More

We stopped in for lunch. It was very busy and staff was running around all over. My husband ordered the buffalo stew and it was nothing outstanding. I ordered chicken quesadilla - what a disappointing meal (what there was of it). Definitely overpriced.
