Nice selection and convenience in a great location

We've eaten here many times in the past. One of the things we really like about the place is their morning breakfast buffet. Those with small kids know it can sometimes be hard to find them something to order at any time of the day. Buffets provide an answer to this dilemma. And the SGL has a... read more

The State Game Lodge was briefly home to two American Presidents: Calvin Coolidge in 1927, looking to escape the “bugs and crowds” of Washington, D.C. and Dwight D. Eisenhower, on a visit to the Black Hills for a speaking engagement in 1953. At dinner time, the State Game Lodge Restaurant is said to offer a formal ambiance that harkens back... More

Wonderful atmosphere, interesting servers, so-so food. The food quality was clearly good, but poorly prepared. Bison, medium rare, tasted like an average steak. A generous portion of trout came with a heavy cream sauce obscuring its flavor. At breakfast, the soft scrambled eggs had the bounce of a ping pong ball. The servers were engaging, one in his first week,... More

We stopped at the Game state lodge for lunch. The buffet was excellent. It had soup, salad, 3 entrees, sides of boiled vegetables, mashed potatoes, rice and dessert. Reasonably priced. They also offer an option of a la carte. The lodge is located about 0.5 mile off the Wildlife loop road.

Enjoy an historic dining feast without overspending. The lunch buffet offers a wonderful balance of salad, dessert and entree, but the best part is the BUFFALO STEW. It's truly the best item and not to be missed! Wish they'd share the recipe. And when lunch is finished, be sure to peek in the bar at the original stone fireplace --... More

Lunch yesterday We shared the smoked salmon appetizer plate and the pheasant stuffed egg rolls. Nice to have something special instead of burgers and pasta. The appetizer plate was beautifully presented with small slices of different fruits ,3 different cheeses and crackers the salmon and a spicy mustard. In the.middle was a small pile of of candied cashews. The egg... More

Stopped as part of a tour package, it was $14 for lunch buffet. Outstanding buffet. All tasted homemade, green beans aldente and delicious. I don't necessarily enjoy buffets, I find them kind of dirty, but staff were cleaning continually and the food didn't taste canned. Real mashed potatoes, whole green beans, ribs, roast or pork, buffalo stew, excellent deserts. Really... More

This is the best dining option in the region. Professionally run… really nice chow. Our waiter, Tyler, was a pro. Everything we had was excellent. This place has a lot of history. Was the Summer White House of Calvin Coolidge... in 1927. Dwight D. Eisenhower stayed there in 1953. Just go!

We(3 friends and I) stayed here one night on our way to Yellowstone. Charming hotel(we stayed in the state game lodge,no elevator) but the real surprise the meal. We ate in the presidential dinning room. The meal was excellent. We started with the rabbit/rattlesnake sausage and pheasant roll-delicious. Salads were fresh. For our main courses, trout, quail, strip steak and... More

We stopped here as part of our tour and we chose to order entrees instead of the buffet. I'm glad I did. The buffalo burger was excellent and the buffalo stew was amazing. The meat was so mean and soft I wish I could find buffalo meat in my city. The service was good and the atmosphere very nice. This... More
