You can access Sylvan Lake by taking Needles Highway, Sunday Gultch Trail circles the lake leading to waterfalls and picturesque views of the area. This is a great location to enjoy a few quiet moments before tackling the amazing scenery.

We needed a place to stop and relax after spending many hours at the Crazy Horse memorial and we happened upon this picture perfect park. Great time taking pictures and enjoying ice cream and coffee.

Needles scenic drive is spectacular, and we started from Sylvan Lodge, where we purchased our state park permit. We were able to do a mini-hike at the lodge.

Just remember to fish with worms and corn like the locals. This is not a bass lake, trout only! There's also a nice hike around the perimeter. Just an awesome place!!

The food at the Sylvan Lake Lodge restaurant is truly spectacular and the service is outstanding, not to mention the beautiful views from the large windows. Meals here are quite pricey (the most expensive of our trip), but the food is also the best we ate while in SD! I enjoyed the salmon while my husband had the filet -... More

After traveling with two toddlers for half a day, we were looking forward to just grabbing a quick meal and eating at the lake. The "grill" at the General Store was terrible. Most of the menu items were crossed off their hand-written menu on the wall, and I'm embarassed to say we paid $18 for 3 corn dogs. UGH. We... More

We stopped here for lunch and after viewing the menu, our waiter informed us that we only had a choice of 6 items. Not sure why we were given menus in the first place. The salad and the sandwich were good. We were just confused. The lodge is beautiful.

My wife and I came to the area to celebrate our 35th anniversary and chose the Sylvan Lake Lodge for a nice evening meal. I love game options and they offer buffalo, elk, pheasant and walleye. It is not a cheap meal - it is at least twice the price of the meals at the Blue Bell Lodge, where we... More

Unwinding after my hike up Harney Peak I wandered around the lake. Beautiful scenery there and even a wedding was taking place across from where I was. The rock formations are stunning against the water and witnessed a boy and his father fishing from a paddle boat which was cool to see. Great place to spend an afternoon just relaxing... More

We took a picnic lunch and spent a couple hours walking around the lake and taking pictures, if we would have know we would have worn our suits and went swimming. There is a charge to get into the park.
