This dining room serves gourmet meals in a recently redecorated historic lodge. Very good food and reasonably priced although higher than the other dining choices in the park. Probably best for adults and older children.

I miss the 'old' Pheasant Dining Room - yeah they tried to keep some of its original character - but so much is gone, its just sad. So...I usually decide to go somewhere else.

We had the lunch buffet at the State Game Lodge while driving within the Custer State Park. The buffalo stew was quite tasty. The rest of the food was OK, not outstanding, but not bad for an all you can eat buffet. The price was within reason when you think of all you can eat buffets ($14 pp) and the... More

After 14 years of dining in the Black Hills, we have finally found really good places to eat and did not have one bad meal this trip. The Pheasant Dining Room at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park has from day one, always served a very good meal. This year was no exception. We brought two couples with... More

I was tired of the blandness of grain-finished beef and bison, and wanted something that tasted like the West. After a full day of hiking in the beautiful state park, this was wonderful. I was concerned about being underdressed in the somewhat formal dining room, but the waiter was pleasant and unphased. He did not take the snobby attitude that... More

We decided to eat a late lunch early dinner around 2:30 to partake in the buffett. cannot say anything good about the meal as it was poorest dinner meal we had on the trip ad it was... More

Dined here for lunch in June 2008. Good buffet, with the buffalo stew, carving station, and homemade desserts as my personal favorites. Atmosphere not terribly refined, which is a plus for me. Mounted pheasants adorn the lighting fixtures and walls. Price for the food is moderately high, but it's an all-you-can-eat buffet, so come with an appetite. The Game Lodge... More

Stayed at the State Game Lodge and enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the Pheasant Dining Room. This is a state park operation served by seasonal students from many places on earth. One large undivided, darkly lit room on second level. The size and tourist crowd from bus tours makes this at times a busy and noisy place. Self serve hearty... More
