In fact, the food and service was excellent and we'll certainly seek it out the next time we're in the Quarter. The only criticism is that it's a tad pricey. $21 for a shrimp fajita lunch is on the high side. Don't get me wrong, the portion was king sized-more than we could eat. I'd suggest a lunch menu with... More

First of all, this place was extremely hot....seemed the AC was not working at all...don't know if hat is normal...the salsa was good, the margaritas good, but way overpriced...the guacamole good, but could have done away with the fresh made at the table production, and too much garlic salt...also, I had to ask for more chips...the floors were filthy, just... $60 for two margaritas, two beers and some guacamole - a little excessive, I think. Although the guacamole was good, it was a large order that should be shared with 4 or more adults.

Enjoyed the burritos as they were filled with the best, fresh ingredients. The guacomole was made tableside and was the best! I would go back again just for that.

It's nice to walk into this air conditioned Mexican restaurant after sweating through the French Market. Unfortunately, the food is merely adequate and the prices not worth what we got. My burrito was dry and my husband's poblano swimming in too much sauce. The sangria was filled with tiny seeds and slightly bitter. Service was adequate. We won't be back.

We visited El Gato Negro during the 2013 French Quarter Festival. They had the best margaritas (and biggest to-go cup) and great tacos. We have been there several times before and always had their entrees (carne assada, burritos, etc). For FQ Fest, we were looking for something cheap and light and found their outstanding tacos. You can get 2 tacos... More

This is your average tasting mexican food joint. The food is priced above average. The cheese enchilada plate is $14. The first round of chips and hot sauce are free, but the next round will cost $4. I would recommend is this because this is the only descent place around that serves good Mexican food.

This is a fun place to spend a couple of hours on a sunny afternoon sipping one of their many flavors of fresh fruit mojitos. It is across the street from the French Market so it is fun to sit outside and watch the action over there. The food is really good and the portions are large enough to split.... More

We had our last dinner here in New Orleans and I'm so glad we did! It is a popular place so we waited about 20 minutes to get a seat, but it was worth it! The food was great and the service was too!

Well...they have a friendly, enthusiastic staff...and the setting is fun and just off the French Market...prices and margaritas are excellent..but the food is just your run of the mill Mexican. It's still GOOD, mind you, but for me it's nothing spectacular. El Gato will cure your craving for Mexican while in NOLA, so don't be afraid to try it. Try... More
