We all loved our meals at El Gato Negro. The place is small but cute. The chips with salsa were excellent. The meals were very tasty. We would definitely recommend this place for families.

I grew up in Texas and have had almost every kind of chips and salsa possible, these were different and very good! Margaritas were wonderful, location is good, and service, food and atmosphere were fun and happy! I will go back as soon as I get a chance!

If you are near the French Market, go all the way to the far end and hang a left. There you will find some of the best margaritas you'll ever have! Don't waste your time with sub-par drinks in the market. My husband and I both got Pineapple Cilantro, which consequently happens to be one of my most favorite flavors... More

Anytime I go to the French Market I treat myself to the most delicious Pineapple Cilantro Margarita at El Gato Negro. The pineapple and cilantro are muddled together then shaken on the rocks with tequila and fresh pineapple and lime juices. So refreshing on a sultry New Orleans day. The cilantro gives it a peppery kick that works perfectly with... More

This was my first meal on a trip to new orleans that involved many meals and it was fantastic. I am a vegetarian and was traveling with another vegetarian and there was plenty to chose from on the menu. We shared the guacamole, stuffed poblano pepper and two veggie tacos. It was all super flavorful and served fast. The chips... More

Great food, service and energy! I loved it. One of my new favorites in New Orleans, and one of the best Mexican restuarants I have eaten at.

took the kids (30-somethings) to dinner here the night before I went back home. Given a choice, this is where they'd pick to come every time. We ate on the patio this time -- rather chilly since it was late November -- but enjoyable nevertheless. Food is consistently good as are the margaritas. Chips and salsa fresh and plentiful.

We stopped in here recently after walking through the French Market and we were glad we did! My husband and I split the steak nachos and they were delicious! They give you so many dipping options on the side, which is great. We both enjoyed our margaritas as well; I had the strawberry and he had orange and lime. The... More

I have been to the Destrehan and the New Orleans locations. Both have good food and service. It's as close to authentic Mexican cuisine without going to Mexico !

I prefer more authentic Mexican restaurants, and El Gato Negro serves "Americanized" Mexican food: the kind that has been made a bit more bland in order to appeal to typical American tastes. The food here is fine, and if you are ok with this style of Mexican food, you'll be very happy. But the real reason to go here? The... More
