Good Food and Atmosphere

El Gato Negro is conveniently located next to the French Market in New Orleans. It is a small restaurant, but we did not have to wait for a table. The food and the service were both very good. I would recommend it if you are looking for Mexican food in the French Quarter area.

At first the staff seemed almost perplexed by our walking into the restaurant but after watching them shuffle around for a minute they finally seated us. The dining space is tiny - we seemed elbow-to-elbow with the people sitting on either side of us, which made it difficult to relax and have a conversation. The chips are salty but luckily... More

After reading reviews, we decided that this was the place to go in NOLA for a Mexican hit - and we weren't disappointed. The stuffed avocado appetiser was out of this world, as were the burritos and fresh watermelon mojito! Incredible service and a buzzy atmosphere. Make sure you check this place out!

I was leary about eating Mexican food in NOLA - - so glad we stumbled into this place! I had the enchiladas, my friend had the tacos. The lobster claw tacos were some of the best I have ever had and the corn tortillas? Handmade and they were phenomenal! Stuffed Avacado appetizer was good. Only complaint is they give you... More

I got a classic mojito and my friend got a watermelon margarita. She said her watermelon margarita was out of this world!!! My mojito was so good too! I also got a guacamole with cucumber chips and my friend got a mixed grill. My guacamole was so fresh because the waitress made it front of me. Mixed grill came with... More

This place is small and on a side street near the Convention Center but don 't be put off, it is a gem. Everything is made in house, including the flour and corn tortillas. We had the Stuffed Avocado which was excellent. Shrimp tacos with a side of pinto beans. Traditional Margaritas and a orange lemon one both were good.... More

My husband and I came across this place after shopping at the French market. We went in for a drink, but they don't have a bar to sit at, so we got a table. We weren't planning on eating but decided to let Sammy make all of the decisions for us. He did fantastic! He brought me one of the... More

This location is just the perfect spot for a bite, enjoy a big dinner, relax with someone special and gather with friends. The vibe is perfect & fun! The food was to die for and we tried several plates along with finding out more about their own special tequila blend. I highly recommend stopping by here if you're visiting, in... More

A group of friends and I visited this restaurant last weekend as we were craving Mexican food, and it had good reviews online. From the moment we sat down, we were completely disappointed with our experience. My party was a group of eight; we called ahead to the restaurant, and they said they did not take reservations but would have... More

Eat dinner here for a bachelorette party and both service and food was fantastic. Try the flavored margaritas and the tequila flights if you are tired of New Orleans fruity drinks. Have the shrimp fajitas but make sure you split. Also do not miss the nachos and filet migon tacos. Make sure you call ahead for a table they get... More
