This place was recommended to us for awesome mexican food. It's down by the French Market so we went here for lunch. Boy, was it an awesome meal! We did over stuff ourselves, but the food was so good, we couldn't help it! The server was very attentive too. Restaurant is small but they keep things moving without rushing you... More

Pineapple cilantro margarita was great. Never had one like it before. A must if you go there. Steak fajitas were great. Also got the appetizer platter, included a great tamale. Broad menu, much more than listed online. Great change of pace from Cajun food. Definitely worth the visit.

Boyfriend and I had just arrived in the French Quarter and were searching for a quick lunch. After walking from Canal/Bourbon, we were hot and wanted to find somewhere to eat fast--that wasn't typical NOLA/Cajun/creole food (after being in LA for two months, I am so OVER the food). We found this place and decided to try it, and were... More

We were in New Orleans for a week, and after several days of eating tradtional fare, we wanted to try something different. We found this place while touring the French Market district, and walked by it a couple times before we realized it was a restaurant. I had a glass of homemade sangria that was cool, refreshing and helped beat... More

When you go to NOLA you think cajun and creole food. Well we decided to branch out and try this restaurant for dinner - it did not disappoint! The food was amazing and just enough portion wise. Everything tasted fresh and the margaritas were delicious! One warning: it's a little pricey depending what you order, but worth it!

This was a nice change of pace from your usual NOLA restaurant. The food was very good and the guacamole made at the table was a wonderful way to start the meal. When you want to slip away from the typical NOLA meal, put El Gato Negro on your list.

Although the food is very good, we went for the margaritas. The pineapple/cilantro was one of the best I have ever had. Oh, ask for the guacamole which is prepared table side and is great! All of the margaritas have fresh fruit. My wife had the blackberry and was very good too.

We decided to try El Gato Negro as it had great reviews and boasted some of the best Mexican food in New Orleans. While it is a little pricey, the food was fantastic! They have the traditional dishes (tacos, quesadillas, etc) but they improve upon them and make them just a step above the traditional mexican food restaurant. Although it... More

Fresh, simple and a solid choice for Mexican food in the New Orleans French Quarter. New Orleans isn't known for the best Mexican in the world but this place does a nice job.
