Go For The Ambience, Not The Food

In a city that offers many great food choices, it's remarkable that the Chartres House offers such unremarkable food. This was my third visit, thinking that previously they might have had an off night, maybe they were running short handed. But on this occasion, I had to accept the fact that their... read more

To begin, the food is just average. The Corn& Crab soup is okay. The crawfish cakes were just okay. Fried Alligator was chewy. You get the idea. Beer selection is good. Clearly this place is for adults, and the kids were lost in the noise, televisions, and chatter. Only the view of the street activities kept them content. Dessert was... More

This place felt quite and local which is sometimes a difficult thing to find in the French Quarter. The food is American Creole and very tasty indeed. There is a good range of beer and wine and the prices are reasonable. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. A nice place to spend a quiet evening.

While walking around on a sunny afternoon day, my boyfriend and I ended up at the Chartres House and I am happy we stopped in. It wasn't very busy so we were able to get a good balcony table. From our table we had great views of the streets below and could people watch, plus there was a street musician... More

Our first stop after checking in our hotel, based upon trip advisor recommendations. Great choice. It was a beautiful sunny day and we sat on the balcony where we could people watch and enjoy the sun. I had the fried green tomatoes and roast beef po'boy. My first po'boy! The portions were huge and the sandwich was very tasty. Our... More

We decided to rest a bit after a lot of walking and split the muffaleta. The service was good and the waiter friendly. Would definitely recommend spending an afternoon here on the balcony

The official tour was already over and therefore, we had only an impression from the outside. It is very well kept, in the middle of the French Quarter and all the tourist have a look at it.

The Muffuletta was delicious and the service was great, all for a good price. This sandwich is big, we shared one.

Came for brunch bc a friend works there. AWESOME Bloody Mary. Food was ok. My hubs got the sampler of red beans, étouffée and gumbo-there are better places with these. I got hot roast beef with gravy. The meat was from real roast & on very good bread. Friend got the crusted redfish- the crust was awesome, the piece of... More

Our first restaurant experience in New Orleans. Great food and location, just off Bourbon Street. Balcony convenient for viewing the street activity and crowds below. Staff was attentive and helpful. I'm not a big drinker, but the bar seemed to have a great selection of beer and other drinks. We enjoyed Boudin, Crawish Etoufee, Red beans and Rice and more.... More
