Located in/under the royal sonesta hotel this restaurant is classic old new orleans. Great oysters, shrimp, gumbo and poboys all done with an upscale twist. This isn't a cheap drunken eatery like most of the other places in the area.

We went to Desire for lunch because of the convenient location, but unfortunately the food was just okay (and in a city like New Orleans, okay just isn't going to cut it!). The service was great and my diet coke was constantly being refilled, as were everyone else's beverages, but other than that I was not impressed. Oysters Desire (broiled... More

The oysters were very big. However, we ordered them broiled and they seemed a little burnt. Actually, they were black like soot. Not burnt like overcooked, burnt like actually in the fire. Kind of weird, not the best.

Desire Oyster Bar is a classic New Orleans eatery. The food is authentic, the staff is great, and the prices are reasonable for being on Bourbon Street. With must-haves like; grilled oysters, shrimp n'grits, gumbo, and fresh shucked oysters, Desire should be a location for a pre-Bourbon street outing or for the aftermath once you survive or need some recovery... We've been at all different times and it's always busy, but not too busy. They get you in quick, serve you quick and check with you constantly. Busy, busy, busy- but good!

With the doors open to Bourbon St you get all the smells and sounds that accompany an evening on Bourbon St. The food was ok, nothing really stood out for us here.

Desire is one of the restaurants attached to the Royal Sonesta, which was convenient for me. I have a tendency of wandering and forgetting to eat, and they were still open at 10pm. When I lived in Louisiana as a child, shrimp cocktail was my favorite, so I ordered that. It was very much as I remembered, but they also... More

We didn't have the oysters, but the crawfish etoufee and shrimp & grits were amazing. Large portions and decent prices. Nothing fancy. But the best thing is the great vantage point to see and hear the live music and impromptu parade that may come down the street.
