Frowns for Smilie's

The exterior and interior are somewhat shabby and forlorn, and it seems that no updating has occurred since the repair work following the huge fire, there, in 1991. We waited and waited and finally the owner, Augie, took us through a hall into an empty and dim banquet room. Service (by Augie) was... read more

Large place, can hold functions there. The food is passing nothing to write home about. I prefer hotter seasoned food, if you have a pallet that does not favor hot this is your place.

Our party of three had lunch there today. The food was good, not great, grilled flsh slightly overcooked, a bit more bread than I like in the crab cake. We ordered 3 entrees from the regular menu + "appetizer for 2", which cost more than most of the entrees. All entrees were essentially the same price. Presented a Local Flavor... More

Visited this restaurant as part of a rehearsal dinner. Upon arriving the parking lot was completely empty and front and side doors were locked. This was my first time at this restaurant - not a good first impression. After finding our way through a back door, we were informed that the doors were locked as a security precaution because the... I was in a rush when I spotted Smilie,s. I had run all over town looking for lunch when I remembered seeing Smilie,s so I headed on over. When I arrived I waited for around five minutes for someone to seat me. My expectations had been dashed. Eventually I was seated and greeted by my VERY attentive server. I ordered... More

Attended a private dinner and the food was awful. The menu was finger sandwiches, meatballs, fried fish, fried shrimp, jambalaya, shrimp pasta, and bread pudding. I can honestly say, the only thing edible was the meatballs!!! Even the bread pudding was tasteless!!! The bartenders couldn't have cared less!!! No tips from me. What a shame. To think someone had to... More

Was there with colleauges . Soup was on not good but not bad. Main dish was catfish with mashed potatoes. Dish looked dull and boring. Fish (well i could not taste what it was) was covered in thick dough with a small piece of fish inside. Potatoes werr tasteless and haf strange look. My colleagues who had veal had same... More

These people who didn't like Smiley's must be from out of town (Yankee's) because I never had a problem with the food. Going there tonight to a Birthday party! Geaux Tigers! Beat Bama!!! :)

This was kind of a mixed visit. While not overly expensive, they have old fashioned service. Real linens, etc. And my waitress Catherine was super! She used the proper salutation to address me (in the South acceptable names to call your customers are "Sweetie", "Baby", "Darling", or "Sugar.") The gumbo I had as an appetizer was as good as I...
