My husbands' favorite restaurant

This was our first taste of NOLA food. It was pouring rain and within walking distance to our hotel. My husband loved the laid back atmosphere, live music that included a dance floor, and his Gumbo.

I found the best cajun gumbo here as well as the yummy fried alligator, catfish, and crawfish. This will be a must on every trip.

We were in New Orleans at a convention and 11 of us wanted to have dinner together. We ended up at Mulate's because they were the only restaurant who would take a reservation that large on a Friday night. We ended up having a wonderful time! The atmosphere is loud and casual and so were we! They have a live... More

I wavered between 2 and 3 stars on this review. Some things were pretty good, but in the end the problems were just too much. I ordered some kind of huge plate with one of everything from the sea fried. At first I was thrilled - the calamari on the plate was great and tender, the fries were awesome, and... More

I went there on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly not that busy given the great area it's in. I was greeted and seated immediately and had a great, personable waiter who was older but really fast. My Louisiana Lemonade was STRONG as are all drinks in this city. I ordered an Oyster Po boy with a side of... More

This is true New Orleans. Zydeco music. Great Jambalaya, red beans, sausage, bread pudding and butter pecan pie!! The service was great and the food was top notch authentic New Orleans. One of the coolest things was watching the older couples that were dancing going up to tables and asking other couples to dance with them. They were very patient... More

This was our 2nd time there. Last time was 2014. Prices have gone up significantly, but then again, where haven't they? We went on a Friday night and the band was playing good music, people were dancing and the atmosphere was fun. I ordered the Gumbo - it was tasty and a big bowl! Husband had shrimp of some sort... Grilled seafood platter and our Uber (it was raining) driver said to save room for their homemade bread pudding. He wasn't wrong! Be sure to go for dinner!

I enjoyed the smoked oysters, zydeco gumbo and fresh oysters. The beer and wine prices were about average. Get here for the live music.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
