Never Had Swordfish Like This!

Atchafalaya is a great place to go for Cajun/Creole food. I just want to mention the main course - wow! Never had swordfish garnished beautifully and deliciously with baby sweet potato and okra! Unique flavors and textures. The menu is not so extensive that you get lost trying to decide. They... read more

We made reservations for Atchafalaya based off of the great reviews on Trip Advisor. We were looking for a casual Sunday brunch with live music. We received a call the day before confirming our reservation (normal) and telling us to be sure to get there early (I'm a responsible adult- not necessary). Our reservation was at 10, which is when... More

This restaurant is the very reason I DON'T eat at chain restaurants! The service starts when you walk through the door. All of the staff was friendly, helpful, professional and really did an excellent job at serving you. We ordered the fried green tomatoes topped with crab which was divine. My birthday meal was the red snapper with dirty rice... More

I have to say we were underdressed and felt slightly uncomfortable but the host was very gracious and did not make us feel awkward. Some of my fellow travelers are not adventurous eaters but everyone loved everything we ordered. I had the swordfish and it was the best I have ever eaten. It was in a spicy curry with sweet... Recently had dinner here with a few friends, and was disappointed. The service was wonderful, and the cocktails were creative and tasty, but in a town with as many great restaurants as Nola has, you really need to deliver on food to earn your stripes. Among the appetizers we had, the wild boar bolognese pasta really stood out as very... More

Anyone between uptown and the garden district will do well to stop here. Warm, high ceilinged atmospheric joint on a boulevard with overgrown trees and Victorian era homes. Great drum and swordfish entrees, fried green tomato appetizer. Fine service, too. Nice bar area in entry room.

Atchafalya deserves its reputation. Rich food in a warm and hospitable atmosphere. The drum was truly outstanding. The crab ravioli was richer than Midas. There is much to recommend the restaurant. If there is a short-coming it is the bar. The "mixologists" are behind the times. My Old Fashioned was uninspired - too many ice cubes and a bland cherry/orange... More

Wonderful service and delicious food make this a must stop for any visitor to the area. Make reservations! The waiting area is small unless you want to wait outside.

Atchafalaya was an incredible disappointment for my girlfriend and I during our recent five-day stay in New Orleans. We were overquoted for the wait time by 25 minutes, which drove the total wait time up to one hour and 25 minutes. Once we were seated, our waitress took our drink order -- a mimosa and a Bloody Mary -- and... More

Delicious food. To start, we enjoyed the free form crab ravioli with and Yellow Fin Tuna "Crudo". Entrees followed and were sautéed drum and American Red Snapper. Beautiful restaurant like an elegant Southern home with various rooms. Warm and wonderful atmosphere.

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
