Classic dining - an oasis in New Orleans

Antoine's has been serving fine food in NOLA for 175 years, so they must be doing something right! Regardless of what their web site may say, no jacket is required and we were told that has been the case since Katrina (ten years ago). Some men did have on a jacket but in the minority at least in our dining room. Woman also not very dressed up. This place has fourteen dining rooms so suggest investigating them and... More

Antoine's has been owned by the same family for over 100 years and is an important part of the New Orleans restaurant experience. This was our first visit to the city so we definitely wanted to eat there, and I'm still glad we did. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated right away which was nice (maybe just... Being the oldest restaurant in NOLA, we were very excited to try it. Very dissappointing. Meals are overpriced, a piece of fish with a little crab (veggies are a separate charge) was $42 - wow!! All 8 of our group was not happy with their meal, either meat was tough, or just ordinary flavor for the amount of money spent... More

There are a lot of mixed reviews for Antoine's. I had a very good experience when I went for the $20.15 lunch special. The food and service were great and the 25 cent martinis were really good. I can imagine that the experience might not be as good at night with a large group. The restaurant is really interesting to... More

We ate in the Proteus room, which typifies the grandeur of old New Orleans. Amazing wine list is first class, but rest is just a mixed bag of very good (Pompano Pontchartrain) to ok (creamed spinach and other sides). Desserts are very good. Frankly, I think the restaurant is just too huge to really focus on top quality. But a... More

Visit New Orleans every 5 years for a birthday celebration and eat at Antoine's each trip. Restaurant was very, very busy - main dining rooms were crowded (not full) and every one of the back rooms were filled with parties, even in the hallway to the back entrance, For a restaurant that bills itself as one of the best of... The service depends on who you get for your server. The table next to us had a server who discussed the history of the restaurant, the building, and the dishes. He also made food recommendations. Our waiter barely spoke to us. We've had better service at moderate, family style restaurants. The food was good. We really liked the Oysters Rockefeller.... More

There are so many dining choices in the French Quarter, but this one is a classic. The setting is elegant, the service superb, and the food was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the cost was for the luncheon special. What a treat!
