We have wanted to try Dante's for years so this trip we made a point of going. It is a long way up in the Garden District. Took a cab and is was a stiff fare. It was very cool that evening and he place was not crowded at all. It is a funky looking place inside (although the garden... More

Every time I go to New Orleans - roughly once a year - I try to eat here. Serving cajun-inspired farm-to-table food in an intimate setting, Dante's is everything I want from a Nola meal. The food is not mind-bogglingly creative, preferring to stay with traditional techniques over the rise of molecular gastronomy, but the execution is perfect. Every meal... More

This restaurant was recommended by a local and we are so glad we made the effort to find it. Good food and great service in a very relaxed atmosphere. We didn't have a booking yet they squeezed us in. This is a known gem amongst locals.

My wife and I went here on a friends recommendation. We were not disappointed. This place is a bit around the corner from the trolley turn off Charles St. It's in a home that has been turned restaurant. We were there on a Thursday eve and were seated right away. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The restaurant uses mostly... More

Located in Carrolton and hidden within a residential neighborhood along the levee, we were pleased to discover a farm to table gem. We were also excited to be seated immediately on a balmy Saturday night in the romantically lit patio. Our server was friendly and provided sound recommendations from their array of dishes. We also enjoyed the interesting specialty cocktails... More

We visited on the day after Christmas and many restaurants were closed. Very glad to have found this delicious spot. The shrimp and grits were fabulous!

Not only does Chef Eman give you a fine meal, he leaves you with a good feeling in your aura. Donates 5% of profits to the New Orleans foundation. Uses approximately 90% locally sources and organic products. A substantially different slant on "soul food," that! Started with some cheeses and the charred French bread. The white anchovies served with the... More

What a delightful place! Looks like a former house (it was dark) with garden, so the dining rooms are small and therefore intimate and not noisy, and that in itself deserves a gold star. The cocktails were excellent...I had a classic sazerac and could have simply smelled the cognac and orange the whole night. We ordered shrimp and grits, bean... More

We ordered a light white fish and vegetable plate - everything was spiced nicely and the meal was wholesome and delicious. The waitress goofed on one order, but quickly rebounded and everyone left happy and satisfied - a wonderful neighborhood gem!

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
