Established in 1982

Welcome to the Nirvana Indian Cuisine. Please take a few minutes to look around. The paintings and sculptures you are seeing are windows to India's ancient spiritual world. After visiting the curry houses of Europe, especially of London, my late father (Har G. Keswani) was inspired to bring Indian culture and food to New Orleans. Since 1982, the Keswani family has presented the unique cuisine of India to the New Orleans community.

Nirvana's probably the best Indian food in the New Orleans area, but we don't have a lot of options. We went here on Christmas 2015. My mom's first time for Indian Cuisine. It was wonderful. The food was excellent and came out hot. Service was good for a Holiday and the restaurant was bustling. We were treated so warmly! A definite go back to and recommended to anyone!

There wasn't a great choice for vegetarians. Usually a biriyani comes separate from the sauce. The sauce was already mixed in with the biriyani, which I didn't like. It was also too spicy, I had asked that it wouldn't be too spicy. The staff were pleasant enough and the restaurant was decorated nicely. Not a very big car park outside.

Visited NOLA with group of friends & decided to go to Indian restaurant. Food tasted bad & very bland. Very bad service. Rude management. May be they should visit Indian restaurant to taste food and learn to respect and serve better. I gave one star because they don't have zero star.

Stopped here for dinner with my son and a friend. Samosas were good, but naan and chicken tikka masala were just so-so. Prices seemed too high for what you got. Would like to try the lunch buffet but will not be going to dinner here again. There are much better places uptown that are a better value for the money.... More

We were largely disappointed with the food in New Orleans, until we stumbled across Nirvana. Delightful and genuine Indian cuisine, served by friendly and knowledgable staff. We loved it so much we went back the next night. If you are craving a change from the tourist fare of oysters and Po'boys, you should make the effort to find Nirvana :)

We were there having a dinner and we got a good surprise when we tried their Tandoori Chiken, it was a good experience and the service was fine.

I could eat Indian food all week long if I lived next to Nirvanas. I dined in several times over the last year and always had a great experience. The service has always been good and the food has always been delicious. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and their Lamb Achari are two of my favorites. I never got the opportunity... More

Wonderful selection of vegetarian and chicken favorites the Tandoori Chicken is delectable and the fresh baked naan is almost worth the cost of the buffet itself. Convenient to uptown and the warehouse district this is a no brainer for quality lunch fare.

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
