It Depends on What You Order

I read the mixed reviews but decided to try it because the ambiance looked like one of those down home delicious places you need to try in New Orleans. We spent a week in New Orleans as part of a convention. We kept hearing about Mother's from other friends who had eaten there. We went with a group of twelve people, and in a city of amazing restaurants, Mother's stood out as one of the best meals we had the whole trip. The building doesn't look like much, but... More

A line, looks popular, tried it off and on over 17 years. Dry food, not good, wait in cafeteria line, hard to find a place to sit. But you get to wait in line? Do not go here with hundreds of great places in town. Oh yeah, and it is dirty!

The line was long but moved very quickly. You order at the counter then find a seat and a waitress brings your food to the table. Their sign says "world's best ham" but I ordered a catfish po boy. It was good but nothing great. Maybe I should have gotten the ham. A whole sandwich is around $14 and a... More

We went on a Friday afternoon. Not much of a line, which of rare. We ordered roast beef po boys loaded, an oyster po boy, red beans and rice and sausages. The roast beef was a bit dry and needed salt. The bread was a bit thick crusted for our taste. The oysters were good. The red beans were a... More

We ordered our food "to go" since our hotel was nearby and the atmosphere in the restaurant is dark, crowded and nothing special. The Po Boys were generous size and delicious. The potato salad was the best we had of many on our trip. The "au jus" for the sandwich was the best ever - could have been a meal... More

I have been to Mother's more times than I can count. It is an easy walk from Canal Street and a great place to get the best local food and the real flavor of what New Orleans really 'feels' like. Very good service - don't let the line out the door scare you off, it moves quickly and you can... More

It was okay and service was good. I was shocked how quickly my family and I were seated. There was a line when we (party of 4) arrived. It only took about 5 minutes to get a table after placing our order. I had the fish platter. The batter on the catfish had very little flavor. It was just batter... More

The line moves quick, so do not be disheartened when you see it. Food was wonderful! Best red beans and rice I've ever had.

We went to Mother's for breakfast upon recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. The outside line to enter tends to get very long but moves fast. Once you get inside, you line up some more while waiting to put your order in at a counter. Then you find a table and your food is delivered to you. Virtually... More
