Good Food in the CBD

We ate breakfast at Mothers and we're pleased with the quality of the food, especially the ham, which they are known for.

Not sure why this place is so popular . The food was ok and sure wouldn't wait inline for breakfast. It was basically self-service.

This isn't five star food or service. It is friendly and I would compare it to Soul Food rather than Cajun. Cafeteria style with food delivered to your table by friendly staff. Healthy portions. I always swear I'll try the fried chicken one day, but find myself never able to wait the extra 30 minutes. If you are light eaters,... More

This restaurant isn't fancy dining but it serves great local food and very reasonable prices. It's directly across from the Staybridge Suite. Be prepared for line ups at noon and suppertime. The staff is the (seems typical to us) friendly NOLA staff with all the knowledge, wit and charm we found throughout the city. They really make you feel at... More

Character? Great food? Atmosphere? Yep, Mother's has them all! We didn't stand in line long but the folks right behind us waited a while....yes, it's worth it! Crawfish etouffee was fantastic. Wife had shrimp po-boy--excellent. Would I do it again? Absolutely!

We asked around for places New Orleans natives go to eat. This was one of the first places recommended, and we are so glad we listened! Mother's appeared to be what we might call, "A hole in the wall spot" but the food distinguishes this place from some seedy joint you wouldn't want to visit. My wife and I ordered... More

Mothers makes a nice poboy, but you know who else does a nice poboy...almost everywhere in the city for half the price and you don't have to stand in line. If you're about to go to Mother's for lunch do yourself a favor and go to P&G's instead it's within a couple of blocks of Mother's and it's where the... More

Friends told us we HAD to come here. We showed up around 2:00 pm on a Sunday - right after a group of about 30 people. The manager was handing out menus to the group and got to us. He asked if we were with them and when we told him "no" he brought us right in. (Thank you!) You... More

DO yourself a favor and either visit Ruby Slipper or LMNO across the street. This place is over rated

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
