The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Brilliant! Just Brilliant!

Let's start with the service.. Spot on! Wine Service was perfect! The app of foie gras three ways was THAT GOOD. Then the duck was the best entrée of the week in town. I can't wait to get back and hit their wine list again. One of the best meals from start to end that I've had in a long... read more

Excellent food and the right atmosphere give in the perfect combination for a dinner! I went there twice, the 2nd time with my friends in my vacation because I couldn't wait to show my friend this lovely place!

There is a nice cellar to look around the saloon. Very good alternatives at the wine list. The handmade potato gnocchi brings black truffle (superb combination). There is a nice creativity on "breaded flounder", with delicious crab and shrimp.

This was a wonderful gourmet experience that we will remember. They use fresh ingredients and there is so many details put in every dish. This is a special place to celebrate any special occasion. Don't miss the handmade potato gnocchi tossed with blue crab and black truffle it is delicious.

This is one of those places that everyone and I mean everyone told me I had to eat. I have to say the food was good, but this is not in my opinion one of the best places in the city. I had the foie gras served 3 ways and it was disappointing. Our entrees (I think we had veal... More

The warm wood paneling throughout August restaurant envelopes you with its soft lighting and comfortable tables and chairs, making this a beautiful setting for a wonderful meal. Housed in an old building, you enter through a bar area (which would be great to stop by and enjoy any other time), the old fashioned kind with deep wood and comfy chairs.... More

The food was incredible and interesting. We had the flounder and duckling, both were out of this world. The gnocchi for appetizer melted in your mouth. We are already planning to go back again. It is expensive but worth it. $300 for the 3 of us.

What a fabulous meal. I had the tasting menu with wine pairing and highly suggest this option! This will allow you to sample what make this establishment a standout. My wife took part in the vegetarian tasting with pairing and had a delightful experience as well!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
