Big old house with tons of quirky artwork and excellent waitstaff. Seemed like a standard for locals. Black drum mueniere had a local twist on it was good. Met expectations, meals were very good but lacked creativity. Overall it was a great evening though.

Upperline combines exceptional food with top notch service in an intimate space furnished with owner's art collection. The owner makes everyone feel welcome and was more than happy to explain art and make recommendations for things to see in New Orleans. The shrimp and grits and slow-roasted duck quarter were to die for. Bread pudding was the perfect finishing touch.

I had not been to Upperline since 1990, when I googled “Restaurant in ‘Treme’” and found it listed. So I called immediately for a reservation, determining to eat in as many “Treme” restaurants as I could during my week in New Orleans. JoAnn, the owner, had been nominated for a James Beard award the night I ate there, and I... More

A friend recommended that we try Upperline while in New Orleans and we are thrilled that we did. Set in an old, beautiful house, there are several different rooms to dine in. Each room is decorated with original, local art. The menu is classic, local favorites and all done very well. The highlight of the evening was leaving late and... More

Upperline got a rave review in Lonely Planet Magazine and we are so glad we went. The owner, JoAnn was so gracious and friendly. She frequently came to our table to chat and told us all about the restaurant making us feel so at home. The food was AMAZING. The fried green tomatoes are a must have. We got to... More

I had high hopes for this restaurant and the service did not disappoint. The food, however, was just good, not great. I ordered the duck and my guests the lamb shank. All was good, but uninspiring. The appetizers were not memorable though well prepared and fresh. Overall, not worth the trip.

While it's great to hear that we reached your expectations in terms of service, I want you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the food, too! It's disappointing to hear that you left feeling like the trip wasn't worth it. Still, I hope that you can give us another opportunity to recommend you a dish that's more to your taste.... More

A colleague recommended this small, charming restaurant in New Orleans. The owner Ms. Joann has not only a terrific menu (duck to die for), but the ambiance with interesting art mostly from NOLA. Must visit

We enjoyed everything about Upperline; taking streetcar out to it, the service, meal, owner came around to the table and chatted, wonderful artwork the owner collects on the walls, etc. One of our best meals of all in NOLA and elsewhere. Just a totally delightful experience and will return next time in NOLA.

Owner very attentive and charming. Came and spoke with us personally several times. Excellent service. One of the waiters had an impressive handlebar moustache. Green tomatoes delicious. We had the 3 course meal for $40 and it was very good. Great collection of paintings on the walls. We called to make a reservation and were able to get in quickly.... More

I reviewed this restaurant on Trip Advisor and called to make a reservation. I spoke to the owner, who put me down for an 8:00 slot. My wife and I arrived in New Orleans and called to verify the reservation. I was told they did not have it and I thought, "here we go!" They told us they would put... More

I still feel bad that we lost your reservation in the first place, but I'm so glad that you and your wife ended up enjoying the dinner anyway, Kyle! The next time you're here, I hope that we can make it an even better time for you both. See you back soon for more turtle soup! All my best, JoAnn... More
