Taxi ride to a great restaurant called Upperline

We called Joanne Clevenger and were pleased to get a reservation at her restaurant, Upperline. She is a James Beard nominee and a delightful person. My first course was fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade which was invited by Clevenger 20 years ago. My husband had andouille and duck... read more

I've been wanting to try the Upperline for some years, and finally on this trip, we were able to visit during our recent visit during Mardi Gras. We reserved well in advance for an early meal, then walked down to Magazine to view the parade. I don't know if business was affected during the parade season, but at least this... More

I usually do not write reviews and I'm a bit selfish because I read them all the time to help make a decision so, I thought i would do my part this time. This place was absolutely one of the best meals I have ever had. There was a large group of us so we had the opportunity to sample... More

In a city of excellent restaurants, this one holds its own. The restaurant and the owner are absolutely charming. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was I reserve that for more innovative menus. The food was delicious but didn't surprise me. But take that with a grain of salt, I could be spoiled.

We had a lovely time at the restaurant - we frequently visit New Orleans and have been been meaning to go to Upperline and this time we finally made it there. My boyfriend has been there countless times before when he lived in NOLA some time ago, but this was my first visit. The food was absolutely AMAZING and had... More

This is one of my favorite places to eat. The service is good and the food is always delicious. Traditional New Orleans.

The Upperline is one of the few fine restaurants open on Sunday evening, so it is my restaurant of choice after the Sunday performances of the New Orleans' Opera. The $40 3-course dinner presents many mouth-watering choices. But it doesn't have to be a Sunday to make a visit to this excellent restaurant worthwhile.

It didn't have to be a Sunday -- reading this review was still pretty great! I'm always happy to hear from such a loyal customer, and I'm sorry to make you choose from all of the choices, but it's great to see that you're never disappointed. See you next Sunday! JoAnn - Owner More

Recommended by friends as having the best food they'd ever eaten. Great ambience, excellent service and the food outstanding. The hostess was the owner, and she is terrific. Three of us at our table had a dinner that consisted of turtle soup with sherry, a spicy gumbo, followed by seared duckling, a fried green tomato with shrimp romalade and wrapping... More

This was a super review in all respects, Bob. It's great to hear that you three loved the service and dinner, especially the bread pudding. Please give my thanks to your friends who gave you the recommendation. Hope to see you back here! Best, JoAnn - Owner More

We were tipped off by some locals about this restaurant and were not disappointed. Having spent close to a week at a conference eating out every night, I'd rate this as the top 1 or 2. Excellent food and service; great local atmosphere. Oysters St. Claude first course was the best of the trip. Location somewhat off the beaten track... More

Hearing that you thought this was one of the best restaurants that you had eaten at means the world to me. Whenever you're in town next, our doors are always open for you, especially if you'd like more oysters! I hope that your conference was great as well! Best, JoAnn - Owner More
