Cool all-counter service diner

Had lunch at this funky all counter service diner. The cashier/hostess asks "how many" as you enter then you're sent to a bench on one side or the other to be seated (standing is for to-go orders). We balanced ourselves on the stool & were greeted by one of three servers clad in white coats & black... read more

This is the prototype "greasy spoon" that I grew up loving. This is a place where you will see the locals eating. The waiters are engaging, the food serving size is generous, and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you like informal counter dining, with traditional food, you will love the Camellia Grill.

I have been going to the Camellia for almost five years and after five years I will not return. We took the trolly all the way from the French Quarter to Camellia's on a Saturday morning. As we arrived about 10 to 15 people were standing out front of the restaurant with confused looks on there faces. We walked in... More

Sitting at a counter is not a favorite of mine, but the great food and the staff at Camellia Grill made it worth the trip.  We had a rental for a couple of days and put Camelia on the list.

This place made me sooo happy! It is the very essence of a greasy spoon. It's counter-service only, the staff is friendly, and completely chill, and the food was great. It's definitely on the return list, for future visits to NOLA.

After an hour wait on a rainy Sunday at 1:30pm, we were finally allowed in after parties of 7, 5, and 4. Should have checked the reviews as this wasn't as good as I remembered from 10 years ago. Food doesn't deserve any special mention and the waiters acted more like clowns than pros. If you like curly beard hairs... More

Stopped in at an old favorite today. It has been several years, but I made my way out St. Charles for a late afternoon bite. The atmosphere hasn't changed. The streetcar takes a sharp right turn onto Carrollton and back about 60 years. I had a Reuben, sloppy and tasty. No problem there. Pecan pie warmed on the grill was... More

HUGE portions! My wife got a cheeseburger and fries, she wasn't disappointed! I got the Chef's Special Omelette which had turkey, bacon, ham potatoes, onions, American and Swiss cheese and was topped with chili and a pecan waffle! Service was great and mid afternoon around 3:30 they were not busy as ALL!

Do not judge this place by the looks. It is fabulous. Inexpensive and very good. Got my food in 5 minutes. Gumbo is great. Red beans and rice is great. Service is great. I'd eat here three times a week if lived in new Orleans. 4.5 stars out of almost 750 reviews. Well deserved.

I have been there many times and it seems that it has struggled since the Hurricane. This is on of the most unique places to sit an enjoy a simple great Cheeseburger. A lot of the experience is with the staff that waits on you. They have always been friendly an willing to go the extra mile. The ride on... More
