We visited for my best friend's bachelorette. We enjoyed a lovely three-course meal, and indulged in the wonderful wine list. The staff was friendly and insured we had everything we needed. I enjoyed the beef brisket, and it essentially melted in my mouth-cooked to perfection! I also enjoyed the bread pudding for dessert. This was a fantastic New Orleans treat!

The first time we went here, we were underwhelmed, but I think we were trying too hard. (It took us a few trips to Nola to stop doing that.) I believe Frank Brigtsen spent time with Paul Prudhomme, and the cuisine reflects that with a last century aesthetic. That said, it's expertly prepared and tasty. The hostess, an older women... I was surprised that I was so unimpressed by Brigtsen's. They seem to have the right idea - fresh ingredients, cooked right, but I thought the portions were small and the prices were too high. Also, the space is small and crowded. I have had the same food cooked better elsewhere in town. Sorry, it just disappointed.

This experience was a delight from making the reservations, discussing accessibility for a wheelchair, being warmly welcomed upon arrival, and special considerations for dietary needs...I cannot express how wonderful Brigtsen's was. The food memorable and exquisitely delicious, we left satisfied and will definitely return!

This is a quaint, charming place in an old house with exceptional service and very good local food. The starters were actually better than the mains - Marinated Shrimp Salad with Guacamole Pickled Sweet Pepper's was outstanding. The set course while we were there included pulled pork nachos which was also excellent. Rabbit Tenderloin with Grits Cake was delicious, but... More

This was by far our favorite dinner place. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, wait staff seemed sincerely anxious to take good care of us, and the food was terrific. It's a bit out of the way--we took Uber to and from, and that worked just fine. It was nice to see a different part of the city, and to... More

You won't mind a ride to the end of the trolley line. There isn't anything on the menu that you won't love. 4 of us dined, all having something different, all loving every bite. Oysters, fillet, fish and duck...all marvelous. I had the duck and it was just perfect. Yes, there are probably 100 wonderful restaurants in NOLA, but Brigtsen's... More

Brigtsen's has always been a favorite of the New Orleans uptown crowd and sophisticated area diners alike. Of 20 researched Revillion meals, that offered here takes top place. The oyster chowder and file gumbo were outstanding. The house salad is anything but routine and comprised of a complex mix of greens, kale, fruit, feta, etc. The stuffed fillet of flounder... More

We were looking for a casual restaurant in this area as we were going to listen to live music at Maple Leaf Bar which is not far from this location. (Jacques-Imo is right next door to Maple Leaf but was subject to a minimum 45 minute wait.) Brigtsen's is a more formal dining room so we were definitely under-dressed. Having... More

Our family of 5 enjoyed a wonderful dinner, several different choices, fabulous service, a lovely atmosphere and a delightful early Christmas together. My first course, the gumbo was excellent. Others enjoyed their oyster chowder. A few had salads or more oysters. Duck, pork tenderloin, fish --- all were very good. Great bread pudding or pecan pie. A great experience.

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
