I'm a New Orleans native, and I used to dine here religiously before I relocated after Katrina. First off don't be frightened off by the exterior, it does LOOK like a dump on the outside. Also long waits are very common, thus explaining the crowds of people you usually see hanging outside. Its so worth it though. They have the... more

As a first time visitor to New Orleans, I wanted to find a restaurant located outside of the French Quarter that typified the spirit of New Orleans fun and good food. This restaurant met my criteria. Located west of downtown in the Carrollton neighborhood, getting here via St. Charles Avenue was an enjoyable drive. You can also get very close... more

Ate there last week … scallops, shrimp, beets, sweet potatoes, fries, etc. etc. Everything was wonderful! We got there around 6 and had to wait about 15-30 minutes. Even if the wait had been longer, it would have been worth it for the good food and the opportunity to watch the owner mingle about the crowd. He was hilarious! more

Jacques has only one vegetairian entree (squash), which is ok at best, but a few bites is more than enough. The corn bread however is another story and is really, really good. Unfortunately it's imposssible to get your catty waitress to bring you another one. I once had another tables waitress sit down at my table when my date left... more

I am all for kitchy, querky restaurants, but this place has some big problems. I will start out by saying that there prices are up with some of the fine dining restaurants. Entrees average over $25, yet they use Waffle House silverware(the cheapest possible) and plastic plates. The bathroom is an absolute joke. It is in a corner of the... more

This restaurant's menu is all over the place. The mark of a truly great restaurant is CONSISTENCY. If you can only order one or two dishes off a menu because those are the only things that are consistently good, night after night, then the restaurant cannot be called a truly great place. Why bother with the other 28 things on... more

Just trekked out on the streetcar but that section of Oak Street is closed right now so restaurant must have taken the opportunity to renovate. Paint cans in the window. I'd call before going. more

Okay, I do like the food but I don't like that the sides are not perfectly designed to go with the meal and sometimes the sides aren't that great. I feel so-so about this place even though I know I'm supposed to love it. Honestly, you want a better priced AMAZINGLY BETTER place to eat? Try Dick and Jenny's at... more

We live close to New orleans and as such have experienced many outstanding meals in the city. Having heard about Jacques-Imo's from friends, we finally had a chance to check it out. The street was under construction, which only added to the turn of the century movie set feel of old Oak St.. A crowd was flowing into the street... more
