"Excellent Mexican.....not the usual"

We were extremely pleased with our first dining experience at the Velvet Cactus. The first note of satisfaction were the chips and salsa. Chips were ordinary fare but hot. The salsa was more of a mole base rather than tomato base...served warm and very tasty. The salsa was more like I have had... read more

I have eaten here twice on two separate trips to NOLA. Being from Houston I am accustomed to excellent Mexican food. With that said, I can say that by my standards this is average Mexican food and a tad overpriced. The salsa is very good but beyond that, I do not think I would return. I would probably look to... This place is awesome and I've already suggested it to friends on many occasions... Never a negative word! They've got the most unique selections on their menu-- healthy options, too! A great place to go out with friends, take a date, or even bring the family. Make sure you ask about the Chef's Special taco!

This establishment has it all. Great food, great service and great, fun atmosphere. Try the crawfish appetizer, it's superb. Highly recommended.

Tried to get into this place before but it was always too crowded. Went yesterday during a parade and walked right in. The service was great. Very attentive wait staff. The menu was a bit confusing but was explained well by our waiter/server. The salsa was excellent. Very good flavor with a slight smoky undertone. Be warned, if you order... More

Great food, wait staff went above and beyond and the food was to die for. The courtyard is a beautiful touch with the heaters and warm blankets. I would recommend the white sangeria!! yummy if you want a change from their great margarita's

Went with my wife after a Saints game. Catchy name, but other than that it was sub-par 'Mexican' food. Actually, it was pretty bad, even down to the chips and salsa. For starters, service was fine. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The chips and salsa...chips were pretty standard out of the bag (probably Sysco), but the salsa was... More

It was the first time my family and I had tried the Velvet Cactus. We had stumbled upon the restaurant on another visit and decided to come back and try the restaurant. Overall, the food was good, the service excellent, and it was a nice Sunday-family dinner. As it was Sunday night, we did not make reservations but were seated... More

This was my first visit here and I must say it was a really nice place and enjoyed what I had eat. I had the Mexican Scramble for brunch and it was awesome. The waiter I had (Brent G.) was very attentive and right on with his service. I didn't have to ask for refills and he made sure my... More
