Best snowball ever. Flavors are rich and delicious, ice just melts in your mouth. Don't be put off by the lines. It is worth the wait! Try the "chocolate lasagne"; chocolate syrup layered with chocolate syrup and condensed milk.

If you want the best sno-ball in New Orleans you need to visit Hansens! Unique flavors and super fine ice. They even have banana fosters with real bananas. My favorite is the lemonade with strawberry cream!

I had never had a snow ball before, so my friends thought it necessary to take me to Hansen's in New Orleans! Why not have your first snow ball at the best place in town? Anyways, it was a very hot day, we were in line for about an hour, but it was all worth it once that icey piece... More

The place and their snowballs are unique and a must-do in New Orleans. The line might be long but the service is extremely quick. Definitely a place with character.

I was skeptical. Stand in line for ice? How good could it be? Answer: really, really good. I am ruined for snow cones at the fair forever.

Outstanding New Orleans Sno Balls with traditional flavors and some unusual ones like Anise, which is quite good! But the thing that sets them apart is the ice or should I say Snow...their's is the snowiest ice around. It is all in the 1934 machines that make pillowy soft mounds of snow from ice. Outstanding.

Made it up to Hansen's around 4pm on a Friday and waited about 20 minutes which was not bad at all! The flavor selection is wonderful and inventive- I opted for a half cream of nectar, half vanilla with a condensed milk topping. The ice is shaved in a proprietary machine the founder invented back in 1939- it's creates the... More

This place is very popular. I waited in line for over an hour. It was cool to read the articles about the history on the wall. The snow cone was good- should be part of your New Orleans experience, but not worth the wait.

We took a really roundabout way to get here during our afternoon on Magazine Street, and it seemed pretty scary for a while. My daughter was not at all impressed with the outside of the place, and pretty upset that we had to wait to get in (they open at 1 and we got there at 12:52). We were 4th... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
