Best Fried Chicken I've Ever Had

Our cabbie told us about Willie Mae's on the drive into the city. He said it's the best fried chicken he's ever had. So we went. It's absolutely no-frills and out of the way. When we were there they were out of mashed potatoes, root beer, lemonade, even salad. The side orders they did have were of... read more

If the whole world could find unity through fried chicken it would be just fine by me. I only wish the service would be better, the pork chop not served cold, the batter on the chicken be just more than just flour, and the ice tea have a ratio of more tea than water. Oh, and please serve me everything... More

Not your French Quarter 5 star affair for sure, just amazing friend chicken and sides! Great food, good prices and off the beaten track.

So we each got the fried chicken... and could have easily split it. It's SO MUCH FOOD. So much DELICIOUS food, but so much food. I wish we could have taken leftovers home, but that doesn't work so well for tourists. Piping hot. TONS of breading on this chicken. Maybe dipped in something first, a sauce that gives it a... More

In the heart of the district Katrina devastated (This place was under four feet of water) it offers quick service and great fried chicken. The crust of the chicken is spicy and crispy and delicious. Service is with a smile. Parking is difficult and much of the surrounding area looks like a slum. Would not want to be out and... More

Made it here for a late-ish (2:30pm) Saturday lunch. People say this is the best fried chicken anywhere, and I cannot really disagree. (I'd say L. Woods in Lincolnwood, IL, has chicken in the same rarefied league, but they only offer it on Sundays.) 3 large pieces, perfectly done, in a sneaky-spicy batter, served up piping hot. There are other... More

While visiting New Orleans we went to Willie Mae's. We waited in line for 20-30 minutes. So worth the wait. We both had the fried chicken. The best I think I've ever had. I also had mashed potatoes with a wonderful gravy. Make sure you try the fresh squeezed lemonade. When visiting New Orleans I will definitely go back.

We took a cab over for lunch and the chicken is all that they say it is! Definately worth the trip! The meal was wonderful, the service is lacking, they are not five star servers but they try and the food is worth the wait. It's an interesting place and the sides are just as good as the chicken. Would... More

Often when a place gets hyped by the Food Network and other food media, then when you go it doesn't meet expectations. Not true with this gem of a restaurant. Genuinely family friendly staff serving the best restaurant fried chicken I have ever had....moist, a hint of spice, and just delicious. Sides are great as well with our group having... More

Had an excellent meal of Fried Chicken, Red Beans & rice, Mac & Cheese and Corn Bread. Get there early, by 1130am the line gets long. Best I ever had....no. But very good & worth the trip. Good service & polite staff.
