Its a great place to eat that is on the square

This is a comfortable place to grab a bite, if you can get seated. It is very Wisconsin oriented. The place is fairly large, but it get busy at various times. Their menu is extensive and everything that I have tried has been very good. They use local vendors for food. If you are on the... read more

It's an old fashioned chop house, popular with the state worker lunch crew-- long wood bar with EVERYTHING on tap, wooden floors, dim-ish lighting -great atmosphere. Had the house burger, which is a slab of beef, cheddar, caramelized onions, bacon topped off with a runny egg and served with a mtn of fries for about $10-- wow. I ate it... More

Found this place on Yelp and we went for dinner one night. Good burgers and the best cheese curds that we had while in Wisconsin. They have a whole page on their menu devoted to variations of the cocktail that makes up their name. You can also build your own. It did not disappoint!

Once more, I just have to say, The Old Fashioned does its thing well. Weekday breakfast here is a treat. Not the cheapest breakfast, but money well spent for those who know good ingredients. Get the daily scrambles. Good swine from the fine people at Jordandal Farms. 7-year cheddar. Local produce. You really can't go wrong. From the menu I... More

My second time to Old Fashioned and it did not disappoint. They use local food vendors, have gluten free options and the food had always been fresh and tasty. Salads and burgers are always great.

This place gives me the full "On Wisconsin" experience. College sports decor, cheese curds (do not leave without trying), and great sandwiches. They could charge quite a bit more than what they do and I would still walk away happy (and stuffed).

This place has a great location, and good food. It's a great place to hang out. It is a little loud and crowded for my taste, but most people I know don't mind. Enjoy!

The beer list is great, curds are good, could be more crisp, but the dipping sauce makes up for it. Get an old fashioned burger, eat it upside down so that the egg will run down over the rest of the burger leaving less of a mess. The walleye sandwich is good as well, and big enough to serve 2.

We were in town for work and we're told we had to visit the Old fashioned for drinks and cheese curds. The place did not disappoint. We went on a Thursday evening, and while extremely busy (told a 45 min wait for a table) the 3 of us were able to find seats at the bar within 10 mins. The... More

We are in Madison on business and this place was recommended by co-workers. I went there tonight and was not disappointed. There was a bit of a wait (30 min) even on a week night, but we spent our time wisely at the bar. I had an original Old Fashioned, and it was very good. I also got to try... More
