We started off with a cheese plate of Wisconsin cheese. The presentation was very nice with 3 types of cheese, honey, walnuts and crackers. I had a most wonderful salad with Door County cherries, blue cheese, almonds and a light dressing, and a cup of Wisconsin beer cheese soup with popcorn garnish. Others at my table ordered bratwurst and fried... more

We really enjoyed our lunch at The Old Fashioned. It's right across from the Capitol building. The place was packed, and had a loud, boisterous atmosphere, so not the ideal choice for a romantic meal. The menu lists many cheeses, we tried the fried curds, some of the best we've ever had. Service was a tad slow, but about what... more

Great traditional greasy Wisconsin food. You can start with a plate of cheese, then have a burger with a fried egg on top. Very great local food. more

We went on a pretty busy Monday night to have dinner. Disappointed that the menu was 95% sandwiches and other non dinner type items but planned to make the best of it. After ordering drinks the noise level was so loud and oppressive we could not hear each other from across the table. It was HORRIBLE. We don't mind busy... more

I have to say, the owners here have really nailed this one! From an atmosphere standpoint, it's the perfect microcosm of Madison. The service is always friendly, and the food is consistent and delicious. My only complaint is that, because they do what they do so well, it always seems to be crowded! But kudos to them for running a... more

Some of the best comfort food in Madison whether you go for the Mac n' Cheese or the curds. I've also enjoyed all the other dinners I've had there. MMMMmmmmm. Love it!!! You'll definitely want to get 3 or 4 orders of the curds if you're in a group. Get the Paprika dip for the curds and get an Old... more

It's funny that the OId Fashioned tries to be all old school Wisconsin, but is on the capital square. I love their amazing selection of beer! The fries and curds are great, as are the cheese plates and lazy susans. I love to go with a friend and split the mac and cheese and the walleye sandwich. The mac and... more

Everything on the menu is fantastic, but the only thing you ever need to order is No. 30 The Old Fashioned House Burger-grilled over a live fire and topped with fried onions, Bavaria's hickory-smoked bacon, aged Cheddar, garlic sauce and a soft-cooked egg on a buttered and toasted roll Trust me this is best burger you have ever tasted more
