Stopped here late afternoon on a Thursday. It was mostly empty. Had one of the most fantastic Reuben sandwiches ever and some absolutely amazing beer cheese soup. I would recommend going earlier as we walked by later in the evening and the place was packed.

The man at the front desk of our hotel recommended this place in downtown Madison. He recommended it partly because of the number of beer brands available. Unfortunately we bit... We had an hour wait (no reservations accepted). Downtown Madison was full of unsavory looking characters including rough looking leather-clad men eating al fresco because of the "Mr. Wisconsin Leather"... More

I love The Old Fashioned, but the "no reservations policy" is just plain hostile. If you don't come in the late afternoon for dinner or post 9-PM, you need to wait inordinate periods. Why not take booking even if only for the peak hours. I can't get my head around the "no-minors-even-with-parents-after-10PM" policy either. Good news ... their waiting list... More

The Old Fashioned is a very busy restaurant featuring Madison local fare - like Bratwurst, fish fry and cheese curds - with the interesting combination of an almost infinite ways to experience the drink known as the Old Fashioned. They have 6 or 7 pre-configured ways to get your Old Fashioned, but also allow you to pick your own ingredients.... More

A classic in downtown. Great cheese curds. Order them if you get nothing else. We went right after the Farmers market and the special of the day was a BLT with fresh heirloom tomatoes.Outstanding. This place is always busy but worth the wait.

I love this place. They make a great Old Fashion!! When heirloom tomatoes are in season you must have the BLT, it's delicious. The lazy Susan's are also very good. The place is always busy. This time we did the farmer's market on the square and then had a late lunch here.

What a great place for breakfast (although parking is problematic). The pancake special of the day was so good - and everything we ordered was delicious. The wait staff are especially nice.

Tremendous selection of beers on tap. Many local brews. You have to have cheese curds and beer!!! Other appetizers were great as well!
