Hidden gourmet gem

Venezuelan might not be for everybody, but they just haven't tried it. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. I had the shrimp appetizer 10+ and a new treat , a Patacon Pisao. I can't even pronounce it. It could have used just a little salt but other than that, you are really in for a treat here... read more

Adult daughter told us about this place. Good was excellent and the atmosphere was beautiful. The lady was super nice. Wished we lived closer.

This was my favorite meal in Madison! The restaurant is very casual and staff are so nice. The rompe colchon (ceviche), was so tasty as was the mojito de coco. You can buy wine by the glass and beer. Highly recommend this place; well worth the short drive from downtown.

My son and I have now eaten at La Taguara twice while in Madison. The first time, in July, was to try something different, the second, just a few weeks ago, was to go back because we enjoyed it so much the first time. Our most recent visit was for lunch, and we both ordered the arepa lunch special with... More

Choosing a favorite dish would be difficult. I love the arepas, empanadas, veggie soups, rice and beans, patacon (veggie)... and their tamarindo juice is the best in Madison. The restaurant staff is warm and friendly. I just wish I could eat there every other day!

Madison is a restaurant mecca, but there is not much for South American cuisine (Peruvian and Brazilian steakhouse). This fills a void for folks who love to try food from all over the world. And it was very good! Orders are taken at the counter (by the owner?) and brought to the table. This is a small space, and on... More

We have been here for lunch and dinner, take out and eat in. Everything has been delicious. The soups are especially good. Eveyone was super friendly and helpful in describing the entrees.

Ordered two dinner items to-go: Pabellon, Venezuela's National‏ Dish, and Cachapa con Queso y Cochino Frito--both of which had vegetarian options. Pabellon was a wonderful blend of rice, beans, and shredded beef, all extremely well flavored. Cachapa was a sweet corn bread pancake filled with cheese and served with crispy pork that neither of us could stop eating. The service... More

We happened across La Taguara when we were on the west side of town and looking for a well-reviewed lunch spot. It did not disappoint! Clean, with friendly staff and excellent, fresh food.

The owner has worked in Madison restaurants for many years, and has opened this restaurant along East Washington - a tricky location. But, the parking lot, at night, is full (always a good sign the food is good). They recommend the 2 most popular items, and you can't go wrong with either. The food is fresh, and delicious. It's like... More
