State St landmark run by brothers. Booths and decor showing its age. My husband loved his burger but would have preferred no provolone but didn't think to ask. His fries came very hot. Fun evening at Nick's before the Jerry Seinfeld show at the Overture. Reservations were handled by Dino, even though we had a late addition - Dino was accommodating. Jack our server did a great job, kept things moving since he knew we were on a schedule. The ladies had reuben's and a veggie reuben ("best ever" she exclaimed). A patty... More

Nick's has been around forever and I have eaten here many times. Sometimes I have had a good meal and sometimes not so good. The food is nothing fancy and the prices are reasonable. This restaurant is across the street from the Overture on State Street. You must have the lemon soup...unbelievable. I do not recommend the chicken or lamb... More

Ate there recently. Went in about 6:30pm. The special was BBQ Beef sandwich and fries. The sandwich was less than appetizing. The beef was found, fine. It was overcooked. Maybe the end of the pot.. I shouldn't have accepted it. The flavor wasn't anything other than than lousy. The fries were good. The waitress was friendly and aimed to please.... More

We were visiting my parents in Madison (making us a party of 7) and were starving for breakfast. It was a holiday and a lot of places were closed or had long lines. We passed by Nick's figuring we were running out of options. The person who I think is the owner sat us down and took our order. Since... More

We were looking for a quick burger break. In ten minutes, we had a piping hot burger and fries to-go from Nick's. Great burger; thick, hand-formed patty with just a hint of pink in the center. Perfect! The fries were really great also, not spiced, but certainly not ordinary. All at a very reasonable price. I will go back often... More

It was gorgeous out so we ate outside on their patio. My hamburger was very plain and the bun was cold. The gyros' meat was good but the sauce was plain. I would not eat there again.

Stopped in for a quick bite and a drink. Loved the funky decor. Staff really friendly. Appetizer was OK, but think this would be a great night drinking stop. This is not a new sterile place and not suppose to be. Enjoy it for what it is.

The website made the place seem appealing - like a hidden gem with "made from scratch" foods, with its original 1950s nostalgic decor, and having served celebrities. So our group of 4 ordered broiled haddock, bacon cheeseburger, Greek chicken salad, and a grilled cheese with tomato, with soup and fries. The fries were very good, but that's where the praise... Average greasy spoon. Smelled like the place for close to an hour. The menus were greasy too. Will not return
