Useful Location, Conscientious Staff

We visited on an off night. Our wait staff was friendly and welcoming. Nick's seemed dark inside for a State Street establishment but the food was fine and the restaurant quiet. My wife lived her white fish.

Nicks is an old place that shows its wear and tear. The place looks like it is still from the late 50s with naugahyde booths and old wall paper. I kind of like that worn feel. Some will think it is way too out dated. Anyway, as a plain American tastes type of eater, I found their real roasted turkey... More

We were delighted to find absolutely excellent dining in this small place on State Street.....with great prices. It is an old business and does not try to impress with fancy atmosphere....pretty much a bar with a restaurant in the back. They really do know how to prepare prime rib which is featured on Saturday nights, and know how to make... More

The food was below average BLT very few pieces of bacon and they were ice cold not even sure if they were cooked, the rest of the food was not very good either, there are way too many great places to eat to stop here

State St landmark run by brothers. Booths and decor showing its age. My husband loved his burger but would have preferred no provolone but didn't think to ask. His fries came very hot. I had the special-turkey sand with mashed and gravy-tasty, good quality but not hot enough Pecan pie aka mode shared-pie looked like commercial crust maybe baked in... More

Fun evening at Nick's before the Jerry Seinfeld show at the Overture. Reservations were handled by Dino, even though we had a late addition - Dino was accommodating. Jack our server did a great job, kept things moving since he knew we were on a schedule. The ladies had reuben's and a veggie reuben ("best ever" she exclaimed). A patty... More

Nick's has been around forever and I have eaten here many times. Sometimes I have had a good meal and sometimes not so good. The food is nothing fancy and the prices are reasonable. This restaurant is across the street from the Overture on State Street. You must have the lemon soup...unbelievable. I do not recommend the chicken or lamb... More

Ate there recently. Went in about 6:30pm. The special was BBQ Beef sandwich and fries. The sandwich was less than appetizing. The beef was found, fine. It was overcooked. Maybe the end of the pot.. I shouldn't have accepted it. The flavor wasn't anything other than than lousy. The fries were good. The waitress was friendly and aimed to please.... More

We were visiting my parents in Madison (making us a party of 7) and were starving for breakfast. It was a holiday and a lot of places were closed or had long lines. We passed by Nick's figuring we were running out of options. The person who I think is the owner sat us down and took our order. Since... More

We were looking for a quick burger break. In ten minutes, we had a piping hot burger and fries to-go from Nick's. Great burger; thick, hand-formed patty with just a hint of pink in the center. Perfect! The fries were really great also, not spiced, but certainly not ordinary. All at a very reasonable price. I will go back often... More
