We were entertaining out of town friends (and one person is brothers with someone who has one of the top SteakHouses in the US). No pressure, right? I've had great experiences at Smoky's, Flemings, and DeLaneys, but a friend of the family, JJ Watt's recommended Tornado so we went with that. They were staying downtown so it was a convenient... Excellent service, food, and drinks. The salad, soup, and steaks were perfect. The margaritas hit the spot too. A place I'll go back to soon.

Tornado is a traditional steak house. Decor reminds me of 1950's era facilities. However, that should not be taken to mean that things are in disrepair. Its just the look that is old, from the formal dress of wait staff to wood paneled walls and dim lighting. Only thing missing is the cigar smoke. The food was excellent. The best... More

I am a "weary traveler" that has the opportunity to eat out across the midwest on a very regular basis. I have been travelling to Madison over the past 10 years and have the pleasure in discovering and frequenting this absolute gem of a steakhouse. The bar serves killer cocktails, the staff is always engaging and friendly, and the steaks... More

This u Is a very busy place on weekends and reservations are a must. The food is quire good. I had the New York strip and ir as very well prepared, juicy and tender. The meals come with a salad and one side so it is a better value than alacart steak houses. The spinach salad was great but if... More

My wife and I made reservations for 6:15pm on a Friday. We arrived and were seated promptly. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. We both ordered a filet medium well and it was perfect ! The baked French onion soup was also wonderful! Two great filets, baked potatoes, two cups of soup and 2 glasses of wine and our... More

My wife and I had dinner with our daughter and our son-in-law on a Saturday night in June, to celebrate several “special occasions”, including a belated Father’s Day. We were all looking forward to this dinner and started exchanging messages about it several days before that Saturday. We’ve eaten there several times in the past- usually those special occasions while... More

When you walk into the Tornado Club you feel transported back to the 1950s. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. I would have given it five stars but my Steak au poivre was rare and I asked for medium rare. Still incredibly tender and not too big a deal but since it's a steak house I... More

This place, just steps from the Capitol building, is really a pleasure to experience. So, yes, the atmosphere is vintage 1950's steakhouse. I find it incredible it has not been renovated since its construction. The seats, the bar, the lighting, this place isn't retro, it's vintage!!! If you've not had an old fashioned here, you've never had an old fashioned.... More

Steaks are good, free salad or soup to start with. House wine is OK. Service was excellent, and it is not overpriced.
