I have lived in Madison for several years now and had heard that L'Etoile was the 'best of the best' restaurant in town. We dined at L’Etoile on a weekend night a few weeks after the move to their new location. The dining room is contemporary and elegant; muted colors with the front of the room entirely enclosed by glass and steel. The food itself was fresh and well prepared but I don’t feel it was a particularly good value. The food was... More

We go back to the Odessa Piper days at L'Etoile. Chef Miller'offerings kept us coming back. This was our first visit to 1 S. Pickney and our first experience with the new menu. The new digs are impressive as are the price$ on the new menu. While the 30 foot cielings and the more spacious seating inspire, the service on... More

My husband took clients to L'Etoile for a business meeting a few weeks back and they had excellent food and service, so he decided we should have a special evening out to celebrate his birthday last night. "Special" it was...first, let us say that the food was outstanding - fresh, creative, inspired and memorable. Unfortunately, the service was a disaster,... More

Unbelievable. Excellent food, menu changes weekly as the chef uses local ingredients that are in-season to create a fantastic menu. I reserve the place for special occasions, though, only because of the price - very expensive, but you get what you pay for. When else do you see sturgeon and pheasant on a menu?

This is the restaurant we always went to for those special occasions. You can be assured of a fabulous unique meal with locally grown and seasonal ingredients as much as possible. Expensive but excellent.

Went for winter restaurant week. Chicken liver mousse was perfect. Coq au vin was quite possibly the best chicken I've ever, or will ever, taste. Crispy skin, delicately roasted root veg, and very tasty Willow Creek lardons. Didn't much like the saltimbocca, but I generally am not a fan of thinly pounded meat. Polenta was almost enough to overlook it.... More

We've lived for years in Madison and haven't been to L'Etoile until yesterday. We should have gone a lot sooner. Yes, it was expensive. No, it was not oppressively snooty. Everyone was dressed comfortably. The meal was sublime. We chose to have a full meal (first course, entree, cheese and desert) which was really more than we needed, but each... More

We were in Madison in July 2009 for two nights and based on reviews here, we made an advance reservation at L'Etiole for the first night. I have to admit that we figured it wouldn't be that great....after all, it's Madison (and I'm not trying to be snobby. I grew up on a farm and still live in a county... More

While I did not dine at the restaurant, I enjoyed the chef's handiwork at an Outstanding in the Field dinner at West Star Farm in Cottage Grove, WI. Never before has "ordinary" food been so extraordinarily prepared and presented. DELICIOUS.
