This is likely the most artsy food presentation I have ever eaten. The atmosphere is meant to be chic and romantic but it's a bit empty feeling. The floor to ceiling windows with a view of the Capitol made up for it. I was a bit put off by the first hostess we encountered, but our waitress was fantastic. We... More

We were first at l'Etoile about 25 years ago and enjoyed the meal. Last weekend we were there with our children and were not impressed. While the service was very good, the menu is limited and the price is high for what you get. While it may be a good restaurant for Madison, it doesn't compare to a number of... More

Madison is a dichotomy -- folks consider it a "foodie" haven, but it doesn't have many really good restaurants. There are a few good ones, and L'Etoile is head and shoulders the best of the bunch. It is a seriously ambitious restaurant, and successfully so. It is the only place in Madison that would be considered good by Chicago or... More

My wife and I share a birthday. Our son and his wife treated us to dinner last night at L'Etiole. They have changed format to a chef's choice tasting menu. We opted for the Seven Course offering with wine paring. It was incredible. The service was most attentive but not intrusive. Our party required dietary modifications which they accomodatd handily... This is a very nice restaurant with good food and service. It has a very impressive cocktail service with very unusual combinations and liquors. The food uses local ingredients and is similarly top-notch. The issue is price. Some of the cocktails are very reasonable (around $12) but a few were $20 - I don't think I've seen those prices in... Maybe it's because Madison is a state capitol, but this restaurant far exceeded expectations for fine dining. It could have been a much more expensive meal, but we were not that hungry and we all opted for two first courses. Nevertheless, these came with an amuse bouche and a small taste of cold soup. I had the smoked salmon and... More

I made reservations on our way back from Wolershine Winery. They asked if I had any food allergies when making the reservation!!! What a GREAT idea!! I am gluten free, so very much appreciated this! My food sensitivity was confirmed when we were seated! Our waiter, Patrick, did a very nice job! I was the designated driver, or would have... More

We have had 3 excellent meals at L'Etoile. The view of the Capitol out the front window is beautiful. They use only locally sourced ingredients for their offerings, which changes daily. They have one of the best wine selections in the city with excellent staff knowledge. Because the menu changes frequently, I will just say that we have never had... More

And one of the best I've dined at in the US. A balance of great food, service, and atmosphere, where the staff take real care to give you a perfect dining experience!

We started to go into "Graze"', the new affiliated restaurant, but could tell it would be way too loud for us, plus packed and we were concerned about service delay. So we turned into L'Etoile, a lovely and elegant space and were seated immediately. Our server appeared promptly and took drink orders, which came right along. After a nice amuse... More
