Not What I Hoped

Smoky's is old school in the tradition of mid western supper clubs. It has been in Madison for more than 30 yrs. You will get a great steak, hash browns that are to die for and excellent service. The bartender, Bob, makes great martini's. The waitresses tend to be older women. They are excellent at their job. They have expanded... More

My wife and I ate here 20+ years ago and decided to try it again. We concluded that the price value relationship was not in the customer's favor. We started at the bar. My wife said that her brandy old fashion sweet was stiff but not especially tasty. The bartender, focusing on being cordial, poured me a bourbon other than... More

We decided to visit Smoky's on Monday, December 29 for a holiday dinner treat. We checked Smoky's website, which indicated that it was open, planned our day around the dinner, and drove over 30 minutes to get to Smoky's from our home. We did not call for reservations as we were planning to arrive early and didn't think it would... More

Holding on to their old ways might be starting to hurt Smoky's. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but the atmosphere... it could use a little revamping, I feel like even turning the lights up a bit would do wonders. A good place to try for sure, but not the ideal first date restaurant.

Smokies has continued to keep up the quality of the food and fun factor of the bar area. On this Friday it was comfortably crowded and unlike most places now you could actually sit at bar without being annoyed with people eating full course meals right next to you. Martini Bob is still there doing his thing and a few... More

My daughter was given a gift certificate to Smokys, and I thought; oh yuck. This is an old restaurant who's better days are behind them. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! It was terrific. The French blue dressing was outstanding, and the steak was flavorful, perfectly cooked and delicious. The hash browns are served family style, and we fought over who... More

Smoky's has been a fixture on the Madison restaurant scene for decades. Unfortunately, nothing has changed in all those years. It is still your basic supper club built around a bar that serves good steaks. Most of the tables are in the room with the bar. It is dark inside with quirky decorations on the walls/ceiling. If you want fancy,... More

I ate here about 20 years ago, place looks basically the same but more worn. Waiter had the personality of a rock. My steak came medium well which is #1 mistake when asking for MR. They said their hash browns were the best but I gave them a 2 out of 10. I feel bad giving a place a poor... More

For Chicago steakhouse prices, we expected more than just average food and an average overall experience. My husband and I dined here for our anniversary; a chain restaurant would have been better. We started with the New England Claim Chowder which was the thinnest NECC on the planet...was like chicken broth with milk, clams, potatoes and carrots in it. My... More
