Visiting friends downtown in Downtown Madison (Sept. 4th) we were delighted to dine at Nostrano. First, the wine selections were wonderful (cocktail looked great too), we chose a perfect Tuscan red and two appetizers (there were 4 of us), olives in oil and sour dough bread, and an amazing charcuterie platter. Sour dough bread is made in house along with... More

Madison is lucky to have a lot of wonderful restaurants, so it can be a challenge to create a meal that stands out from the rest. For us last Tuesday, Nostrano rose to the challenge. We had a great, leisurely summer meal and each part of it was local, fresh, creatively designed, and, most importantly, delicious. We hadn't been to... More

Intimate friendly upscale restraunt. Happen to catch Taste of Madison with $35 pre-fixe 3 course meal. My meal took longer than I expected however I arrived late evening at the end of dinner rush so not too surprised. Had cauliflower soup which was delicious and sweet corn risotto, flavors were exceptional although risotto was thinner than I've had in the... More

We had dinner downtown and the dessert menu wasn't impressive, so we decided to go on the hunt. I never imagined we could just walk in a have dessert and drinks at Nostrano, but we did. It was one of the luckiest days of my summer. We sat at the bar and met our new best friend, Jack. Jack is... More

The seafood tasted like yesterday's catch. The desserts were flat and off putting. Service was fair but not for what you spend.

I always enjoy eating at Nostrano. The meals are inventive and delicious. I especially like to go for Restaurant Week. Great Value! The desserts are exceptional, perhaps the best I've had anywhere (I've been to Europe more than 40 times and travel in the US a lot, too!) I take pictures of the desserts and long for the day when... Nostrano is our favorite restaurant in Madison. The sformato and quail were among the best things we have eaten in town. Brodetto and rabbit boudin blanc have also been good, but the smoked lentils beneath the quail should not be missed. For cocktails, we trusted our server's recommendation and had three glorious Fistfuls of Dollars. Impeccable service. Very quiet on... More

Out-of-towners who are in Madison once a year and who hit all the best restaurants within striking distance of downtown (and then some). Nostrano seemed even better this time than the last time. Food choices while limited are very good; wine choices are quite acceptable; service is very good and friendly (and not over the top). This is a really... More

Nostrano doesn't need my review--just look at all the five-star ratings they have! I went in there with a fair degree of skepticism, knowing they were more pricey than I'm comfortable paying, but it was Restaurant Week and we thought that was a perfect time to check it out. Although it's a small place, it works. Once you're seated there... More

Creative! This is a place to forget about a steak or seared day boat scallops. One of my red flags for an upscale restaurant is a large menu...something for everyone. Nostrano has a workable menu that changes with the seasons. While pricey, the offerings are well prepared and designed to give guests an opportunity to step outside the box. We... More
