Make mistake this is no modern or post modern mecca, it is an old fashion tavern with a fair percentage of the seating at the bar. The food is fresh, meat daily from the butcher shop across the street, and the taste is out of this world good. With the crinkly cut fries or the mandatory cheese curds this is... More

Grew up in Wisconsin so wanted the quintessential tavern fish fry. We were not disappointed at all. Great cocktails, wonderful brandy old fashioneds and the perch fry was really, really good!

Came in at about 1pm for lunch with my gf. Had burgers and they were great as always but one thing thats always bothered me there is the staff. Bartenders have never seemed at all friendly nor have they ever asked how my meal was. It can't be difficult considering we were the only people there and everyone just ignored... More

This little gem was recommended to my work team and was a great place to stop for lunch. Its small but cozy and has a lovely local feel. The burgers are made from freshly ground steak meat and were juicy and tasty. Another in my party had the brat sandwich with sauerkraut which was reported as excellent. While the temperatures... The steaks are excellent, and wednesday and friday fish fry (I especially like the crispy lake perch). The hamburgers are good too (my wife tells me), although I never get that far. If you come during the fish fry the line and the crowd gets pretty daunting. The small place is wall-to-wall people with spillover to the outside. The noise... More

Shh. Don't tell. This place is great. The burgers are fantastic - make from steak trimmings from the butcher across the street. The Friday fish fry is also great - and packed full of people. Go late (after 8) if you don't want to wait. Also - the steaks are yummy. But don't tell too many people - it is... More

This is a good choice for good food at a fair price. The burger was fantastic and it is well staffed so the wait is not long and they all take care of you. A little cramped but worth it. The chicken soup looked good but lacked taste. A better fry then basic crinkled cut would be a great compliment... More

This is the place to go for a great burger and beer while you watch the Badger game with the family. Smaller menu with plenty of choices to satisfy anyone's appetite. Generous cocktails.

Our daughter,son-in law and beautiful grandaughter live within walking distance of Oakcrest. Everytime we visit from Indiana we make the 15 minute walk to Oakcrest and always enjoy it. The burgers are to die for, very juicey and that grilled taste. Ground chuck is from accross the street Knoches probably the best and friendliests meat market in Madison. Cheese curds... More
