a blast from the past

A favorite place for students and visiting sports commentators to enjoy a BIG breakfast as they tour campus or walk to classes

Wow! They need a wall of fame for people who can finish one pancake on their own. My son tried to finish one chocolate chip pancake and with my help left 1/3 for the leftover Gods. Other breakfast items are big portions and good.

I was in Madison for work with a colleague, and we could expense any lunch in town, We chose this place because I had not been there in years. Let me assure you that nothing has changed since it was built, maybe in the 60s? Beaten, cabin-like decor with some communal seating and some booths. Huge and crazy menu on... More

Luckily, we visited when UW was on break, so we didn't have to wait for a seat. I'm always a little torn between ordering breakfast or lunch because both are so good. I love their pancakes! I decided to try the lunch special- the patty melt. Nice and cheesy and delicious. Friendly staff; our server was wonderful with my 2... More

When I stay in Madison this is the only place to breakfast. Genuine original charm, friendly staff, laid back atmosphere and superb food. The menu is basic but great value, the service is quick and you're made to feel at home.

Absolutely over the top for a great breakfast. More food than one can normally eat, but it tastes so good that it's worth the effort. A fun, eclectic, and out of the ordinary diner, but man alive, what excellent food and service. We would eat all of our breakfasts here if the scale wasn't our enemy.

We came here for breakfast after bringing our son back to school. The wait wasn't too bad, as the below zero temps maybe kept people away. We were able to get a booth when we were seated. My husband said the coffee was excellent. Portions were huge. My 13 year old some was only able to eat about 1/3 of... More

Mickie's is busy when school is in session, and you can expect it to be pretty full around meal times. The food we had was excellent.

Although we've known about Mickies for a long time, this was our first visit for breakfast around 8:30. We found two diner stools at the far end of the bar and were able to watch an old school diner at work while we waited for our food, which was very fun in its own right. The service was very considerate... More

Decided to try Mickies for Saturday morning breakfast while staying nearby. Was not disappointed by the food! The ham & cheese omelet was fantastic, as well as the pancakes. Portions are huge & prices are cheap. A must-try in Madison. Do make sure to bring cash, as that is the only accepted payment method.
