Absolutely if it is Dixons. The same family has used the same recipe since 1900! This chili is what a NuWay is to a hamberger. No where close. It is not made with tomatoes or onions. Is is layers of red beans, lean crumbly ground beef and "secret spices. No sauce but you can have it soupy with beef juice... More

While visiting my brother in Independence MO he took me to Dixon's. It's a Diner, a no frills place that is good enough for the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff so it's definitely a plate of food worth experiencing. They serve chili in three styles, burgers, hotdogs, tacos, burritos, daily specials and they have Pie. It is "the oldest family owned... More

Stopped in just to get a T-shirt for a friend (they don't sell T-shirts) and decided to try the chili. boy am I glad we stayed!! This is the best chili I have ever had. A lot different. All kinds of toppings and flavors. I actually got taco's made with the chili and they were fantastic! I would love to... More

Stumbled across this place by accident, and SO glad we did. It was excellent! Will definitely eat here if we visit KC again.

A few years ago, I took clients and out-of -town friends to a very expensive steak house in Kansas City for a nice meal. It was a very good experience and I was thanked by all guests. The next evening, I took the same friends (from the Dallas area) to Dixon's and was not only thanked profusely but was told... More

A blast from the past, a roadside dinner plain and simple. All around good, huge portions but no flare.

When I think of a chili place, I think of a real bowl of chili, not seasoned ground beef piled on a plate. Did I miss something? Portions were large and the other couple we were with really enjoyed theirs. This has been in KC for many years so is older and could use some updates. Sadly, I'm not sure... More

I must have eaten at a different restaurant than the other reviewers. I've been to this restaurant once and that was more than enough. The chili I had must have been from a different pot than the others as this was some of the worst chili I have ever eaten and this place needs a good cleaning!

I find it hard to imagine that this place stays open. I thought it was disgusting. Only in Independence!

Excellant food. This establishment advertises itself as oldest family owned restuarant in the Kansas City area. President Truman apparently liked it also. Some old photos on the wall show him visiting Dixons. Their chili is excellant and served in many different entrees: all very affordable. Close to the sports complex: so you should visit it next time you go to... More
