Ophelia is a small town treat

Great food right across from the Courthouse. Large place, perfect for groups or tours in special rooms, or eat in the regular dining area. Loved the chicken, the pork and for dessert - apple crumble and bread pudding.

The quality of food is amazing. Sure, you have to wait a little while and is not the place you want to be if you're in a hurry. Good food takes time to prepare and they prepare it to order. Rest and relax and enjoy the food and ambience. If you're in a hurry, go somewhere else. We ordered the... More

We really like this place... we bring out of town guest here for the brunch on Sunday... it is not cheap but it is really worth it. Once of the best brunches in the US.

My husband and I enjoyed a special meal here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time (it's a member of locally-owned restaurants called Kansas City Originals which we like to seek out.) It's located on the historic Independence Square. We had made reservations, but were able to be seated even though... More

I met ten other friends at Ophelia's for lunch. I had a bowl of soup and half a sandwich, and it was still expensive! The soup was good, and the sandwich was just ok. I suggested going there, but I won't be going back soon.

We really had high hopes for the resturant but we shouldn't have. If I had talked to the locals and not just check reviews we wouldn't have, but we didn't and ended up spending $100 for a meal we walked away feeling disappointed in. The resturant it self is very high class but the lack of patrons should have clued... More

This was a first time visit. Was interested in the "lump" crab cakes. Notice that the lump is in parenthesis. I was very disappointed in the crab cakes. They were about the size of a silver dollar. Being that size, there wasn't a hint of "lump" in it. The taste was average, but it was all breading. For $12, I... More

Hadn't ever been to Ophelia's before but we gave it a try based on the reviews we'd seen. First, the service we received was absolutely great. As for the food, first we had the smoked shrimp and grits appetizer, which was really good. Some of the best grits I've had and at all what I normally think of as grits.... More

Four of us stopped here for lunch after visiting the Harry Truman Museum and Library. The service is not the speediest but the food was worth waiting for. Two of us had salads and ordered the small size. When they came, they were huge. Could easily have feed two ladies. The guys in our group shared the smoked shrimp and... More

Sometimes a great restaurant can define itself by how it handles a tough situation- when they're short on staff, or when the food isn't quite right. When the establishment is poorly staffed, and poorly managed, it becomes crystal clear as well. This place is hurting (or at least it was yesterday) Our department (10 people) had lunch here yesterday and... More
