We happened upon this gem while looking for a breakfast diner. As it was close to lunch we stopped in. The server was from Nuremberg and the owner is also from Germany. The Steak soup is a great starter. The Curry Wurst was made with a tasty but typically Bavarian Knockwurst. The curry sauce Berliener style and understated. The fried... More

This place gives you a family atmosphere and a taste of authentic German food. My husband's grandparent's were from Germany so he loves it. It has a special place in my heart because it's where my husband proposed. They offer a free apple strudel on your birthday. Everything I had here was great! They often have live dulcimer music.

This isn't a fancy or elegant spot, but if you're open to a solid, old-fashioned storefront restaurant with great home-style food, you've found the place. My husband and I were more than pleased with the friendly service, and I enjoyed a great German beer. The roulade was excellent, as was the sauerbraten. The sides were equally tasty (red cabbage and... More

My wife and I visited this restaurant today for our anniversary. We were both excited but were quickly disappointed. I grew up in Germany and couldn't wait for a brotchen and wurst. The bread provided was nothing more than rolls you could find at any store. The main course was bland and to top it off the potatoes were nothing... More

Storefront restaurant right off the square in Independence, MO, and close to all things Harry Truman and the Community of Christ Temple. If visiting these sites, give this place a try. I stopped on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was about 1/2 full. Nice ambiance, not overly Bavarian like so many other German places but it felt very comfortable.... More

If you enjoy good German food this is the place to go. I know several German people who are very impressed with the food the menu doesn't have a Hugh selection but enough. Some menus can offer so much you can't decide give it a try

Rhineland is a good German restaurant in Independence Square. The food is solid and typical, but it isn't fancy. They have a lousy wine menu, but their raison d'etre is beer, great German imported beers. Beer drinkers love to sample the options. And you can get a good entree with lots of good sides. I like to eat there, and... More

I had the pork schnitzel and steak soup. She had a salad and the beef Roulade. We both were pleased with the quality, taste, and quantity. The sides were good as well. The service was friendly and timely. Nothing fancy here just a good home cooked German meal. If your in the mood, give it a try.

This is a nice little German restaurant, located in an old building in Independence. We went there for lunch today, and have been there a few times over the past few years. It is an enjoyable place for a leisurely lunch. I must agree with a couple other TA reviewers that the service is a little slow. This is the... More

This restaurant is located across the street from the visitor center. We stopped for supper and just had sandwiches and a beer. However the table next to us had full meals and did they ever look delicious. The group seemed quite happy with their choices and were having an excellent time.
