Lived in G'boro in the 80's. Back visiting with wife and wanted to take her there for breakfast. Busy, as usual, but the wait was a short one. Enjoyed the meal and the "up close" atmosphere. Anyone who knows the owner and the history of the restaurant knows this is the embodiment of the American dream.

We tried this restaurant again reluctantly, since previous visits years ago were always lacking. However, we were in the area wanting a sit-down breakfast and decided to give it another try. Big mistake! The most positive part of the meal was the friendly and efficient waitress. There's no butter for your pancakes, waffles, or toast. My omelet had a strange,... More

I love Mom and Pop diners when we travel the USA! Tex and Shirley's is typical of a friendly, family-run diner, and their wait staff treats you like a long-lost cousin. The food is very reasonably priced and tastes really good as well! The best coffee I've ever had is at Tex and Shirley's--It's their Guatamalan blend and was so... More

I love the southern hospitality and home cooked foods. fresh eggs over easy with hash browns and bacon, toast, and tabasco with sliced tomato on the side.

This review is of Tex & Shirley's Pancake House at Friendly Center. With a half-hour wait for a table, I was kind of excited about trying what all these people were so happy to wait for. I was shocked when the waitress told me that the pancakes were served with margarine, and that butter was not available at all. That... More

Not bad for breakfast if your comparison are fast food restaurants. Food is mediocre at best and the place is screaming for new carpet and fresh paint. While the interior still looks like 1980's, the food quality is not what I remembered from years ago.

This is the perfect place for comfort food, all thpes! Breakfast is always delicious no matter what time of day!! Belgian waffles and cheese grits are my favorites of everything here. Keep in mind this restaurant has been here since forever so don't go expecting fancy as you will be disappointed. It still is the hometown go to for seeing your... More

Tex and Shirley's is a long-time favorite restaurant at Friendly Center.....terrific breakfast menu, great lunches (love the BBQ chicken sandwich!) and "home-style" dinners! Popular "meeting place" - always reliable!

We came for breakfast and seated promptly. The first thing that I was disturbed by was there is absolutely no substitution of any kind. My husband asked if he could get 2 pancakes and 1 slice of bread instead of 3 pancakes -no way. We placed our order and it took forever. In the meantime-we sat with empty coffee cups... More
