Heard that during tourist season one hour waits for a table are not uncommon. Yes, the French onion soup is a must have. Artsy decor, fine service and a varied menu covering a wide range of tastes.

The restaurant is very modest and ordinary looking from the outside and even inside the atmosphere is subdued, but the menu and the food is amazing. For instance, braised lamb shanks are not to be found on every cafe menu and some items such as a Reuben Sandwich is different and so better than any other Rueben that is is... More

We chanced into this delightful "cafe" earlier this month. What sumptuous food! And what beauty in presentation! Reasonably priced. My elderly guests ordered a single hamburger to be cut in half. When it arrived we thought the server had not understood. Each serving was so large it easily fed each of them. I had a salad which was unique and... More

Get the French Onion soup It's Fantastic. Plus has the Best BLT I've ever had. Owner joked they should have a BLT clean up station after your done eating it. This place is Defiantly worth the drive up the shore.

Small but nicely appointed restaurant with attentive staff and an ambitious, well-executed menu. Good variety of options, ingredients fresh and carefully prepared. Service was excellent and prices about right. Didn't take reservations for lunch but we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Fresh local fish (herring) made for a wonderful sandwich. Breading was not excessive and flavor well-balanced. Interesting... More

We had dinner here while spending a week driving and hiking along the north shore. It was my favorite meal. But listen to this.... It was roasted chicken and mashed potatoes. I'm one to order the unusual, but was looking for a down home meal, and it was so good, I almost licked the plate clean. Crispy moist chicken and... More

had a delicious dinner here. The duck breast with risotto was excellent. The appetizer (that included herring roe) was good too. Spouse's steak special was huge...way too much and a little more than medium rare as ordered. We'd go back though. Prices were reasonable, service was good, and the place had good vibes. Hint......it fills up quickly. Get there early... More

Interesting menu and great food. Liked the atmosphere, met friends from St Paul and had a relaxed dinner. Glueten free options, good portions, and a full bar.

I loved this place and went back at least twice!. The food was delicious and filled with unique touches. They also had a surprisingly sophisticated wine list! And the views of Lake Superior added the icing on the cake. None of the food disappointed me and the service was friendly and fun!

Great food - highly recommended. Everyone loved their meal, Grandma down to the 2 year old. Quiet and homey - not a lot of kids on a Friday night but wait staff was great and they have a kids menu if you need it. Even asked if we could buy the homemade salad dressing - great restaurant!
