Grand Marais is pretty much what I expected my first time there - cold, a big lake, little shops. But the Crooked Spoon is a lovely unexpected cafe, full of North Shore food, brimming with culinary personality. Pan seared tuna steak? Got it. Craft beer flights? Yep. The prices were very reasonable (for the quality) and the staff was very... More

We live in Grand Marais so we visit the Crooked Spoon several times a year. The menu changes over time so there is always something new to try. The French Onion Soup with a puff pastry "hat" is always available and consistently hot and delicious. This time I had the pastrami and provolone sandwich. It is augmented with horseradish mayonnaise... More

Quiet and unique ambiance for this quiet northern town. Typical menu and seeing you'd find in am urban setting. Menu was very unique, although short on choices, and taste was delicious.

This was my second visit, during our annual pilgrimage to the Gunflint Trail for a ski weekend. The food at this little gem rivals the best restaurants in the Twin Cities, and beyond. The ambience is homey and comfortable. The tastes are other than what one might expect in a small restaurant in a small town. I sampled the braised... More

We went here for a date night and really enjoyed the dark, candle-lit, romantic atmosphere. We always enjoy their warm bread with spiced butter. The rabbit was an interesting, delicious offering and its sauce over the noodles was particularly good. A single roasted carrot lay over the top of it in an amusing show of irony. The French onion soup... More

My boyfriend and I came to dinner here on a Friday night. It was pretty busy; we arrived around 6pm and waited ~30 minutes. But oh my was the food worth it! We shared the chicken entree and it was divine! Highly recommended!

Always enjoy coming in here. The food is very well done and the local beers are really good to try. The service was very straight forward and I have never felt forgotten about here. If it is busy, expect to wait a bit as it is a small operation.

Great view of the harbor, beautiful sunset clouds. Good wait staff, Came here with friends who come to Grand Marais often. The French Onion soup was terrific. The pear salads three of us ordered had very few pieces of pear, and no walnuts for any of us. I attribute that to a staffing problem, on a weekend that has been huge for... More
