Always ask the locals..its our travel mantra and gets us to the best spots in town. Arrived early evening and had a great table to enjoy the harbor sun set. Eclectic group of local musicians with amazing talent and unusual instruments. Glad we were steered in this direction.

A bar lines one wall but its not really a bar atmosphere. The front has huge floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake. Nice waitpersons and great specials each day. Nice selections on menu. Not a place for kids so come in and enjoy the quiet i

Although this was my third trip to Grand Marais this was my first visit to the Gunflint Tavern. Went back a second night and was equally pleased. They have an great selection of brews on tap which is always good. After a bit of personal scepticism and encouragement from my friend I tried the Walleye Fajitas. Way beyond expectations. Tasty... Fairly nice variety and good pricing. Not a lot of seating. They have music most nights, so not the place to go if you want to have a conversation. We were happy with our food and would eat there. If you want to be able to have a conversation and get a table, get there before 5.

My wife and I went there at about 1:30pm on the 10th and they were pretty busy. I would say that there needed to be one more waitress helping the front area. It took awhile to get everything especially the food. When the food finally did show up it was great, a bit over priced for what you got but... More

We walked in & it wasn't busy at 3:30pm. Interesting decor especially at the bar area where they have a row of dangling money from different countries as ornaments. Definitely a bar feel to the place. We wanted to eat at the rooftop but we were told they don't serve food there (major let down) but were hungry & decided... More

The food was gourmet quality...a big surprise in this nondescript tavern on Main Street in a Grand Marais. All of the dishes were interesting with special touches. We especially enjoyed the homemade soups which they have everyday. This was the best food we had on our trip.

Eclectic menu - from the bangers & mash to wild mushroom ravioli to burgers and steaks - we've never had a bad meal there. 22 beers on tap (featuring local craft breweries), many many more in bottles. Bloody Mary's are fantastic!

Heard about this place and was first place we went to but with open tables visible we were told that they could not accommodate our party of four. We were told a local group of nine was expected to arrive sometime and they were keeping tables open in the event they showed up. Thought this rather rude when majority of... More
