Great Diner!

Service was phenomenal. We were in town for fall colors, and our waitress offered up some nice scenic drives to take (which were AWESOME!). Food was home cooked style, very delicious. It was quite busy the whole time we were there, and yet food was speedy, delicious, and the waitresses were very... read more

First let me start by saying I love diners and I like to give them my business. I like others thought this was a Mexican place so I avoided it. Decided to try it based on reviews here. I imagine their breakfasts are pretty good from the reviews. Lunch, not so much. Limited selection an poor quality food (can you... More

Small local café perfect for breakfast or lunch (only open for breakfast and lunch-no dinner). Staff is extremely efficient and very friendly.

We always thought this was a Mexican place but then figured out on this trip it meant south of the Canadian border. We were pleasantly surprised, it :s a cute place, nothing fancy but full of atmosphere. The food was super, down home cooking, homemade potatoes. I had fresh fish as well. Lots to choose from, come in and enjoy.... More

Tiny little place, but the best food! I love having breakfast here! The service is always good for us and I love the feel of the place also. Excellent prices too.

Good food, service that is efficient and friendly, and a clean atmosphere that is basic but pleasant. Everything you need in a breakfast when traveling. We stopped here at about 7 AM on a Sunday morning when we were wanting to get back on the road quickly. Mission accomplished--with a good hearty breakfast! We have been here before and have... More

My wife and I spent a restful night in Grand Marais, Minnesota on August 22 while on a brief vacation getaway to the Lake Superior North Shore. The next morning we went looking for a breakfast cafe and found South of the Border-- we honestly thought it was a Mexican restaurant, but the locals explained that the “border” was the... More

Great staff - very friendly. This is a throw back diner from the 50s. It also has more seating than you would think when seeing it from the outside.

Because of the reviews here on TripAdvisor my husband and I decided on our way up to Grand Portage to stop for breakfast here. We were both sure glad we did, the breakfast was served hot and exactly how we ordered. It was plentiful and delicious. The uniquiness I noticed that you knew you were in a Minnesota is that... We love the name of this place because when you think of south of the border your mind always goes to Mexico. They have very cheap breakfast that reminds you of having Mom cook for you. It's more of a locals place but we certainly felt welcome. Great service!
