Pizza was fire baked which I would not have thought would have existed in a small town. The crust had a nice chew. It's not typical Minnesotan pizza where the sauce and cheese are piled on. I had the margharita pizza.. no sauce just tomatoes, moz and basil. I have had better versions but I appreciated what they were doing.... More

My wife had the frozen vanilla custard and loved it, I'm not a custard guy. Now the Gryo was excellent!

We tried the traditional gyro and it was really good. Cute place with friendly, helpful staff. Great location on the water.

Sydney's fire baked pizza is wonderful. We stayed in the condos across the street from Sydney's and the smell of the firewood always burning was great. You need to try it.

I'm embarrassed to say that we visited Sydney's 3 times in one week - it's that good! Their homemade waffle cones would be good all by themselves, but paired with their creamy ice cream...it's so divine! Eat upstairs on the rooftop and enjoy the stunning view of the Lake. We didn't have their pizza, but boy, did those ever look... More

Get your order (I haven't tried their pizza) and then take it to the upper level deck to look out over the water.....I can't think of any other place that has such a great view.

The wood fire pizza was very good. We did not try the frozen custard. They were busy but our pizzas were ready in 15 to 20 min. They had a good selection of fresh ingredients. This small shop is right on the beach, beautiful spot. Only a few tables some on an upper deck. After eating we walked the beach... More

I really like frozen custard. Thus, when I saw "Sydney's Frozen Custard" in Grand Marais, I felt the need to stop and give it a try. It was late in the evening (in late August 2013). They had a fire going in an outdoor fireplace in the outdoor seating area. The overall atmosphere of the place was good and inviting.... More

We had wood grilled pizza and custard shakes for dessert. Very good and loved the fire that you could sit by while dining.

Sydney's is known for their frozen custard, which is much thicker than regular ice cream. As far as that goes, get a Sydnami (their version of a blizzard). The "Mini" size is all I can usually handle. BUT! Before the ice cream, share a wood-oven pizza with your family. They're fresh-tasting and delicious.
