Delicious, cozy, warm, & friendly - perfect before BAM!

Saw that Berlyn was near BAM venues and highly recommended -- now I know why! Such a beautifully appointed bar and dining room -- evocative of Germany and so comfortable. The paprika potato chips with blue cheese dip is heavenly. The dip sauce is amazing and I'd return for it alone. The weiner... read more

We were lucky to snag a table at this small crowded restaurant due to someone cancelling their reservations. The decor was smart German cozy mixed in with a Brooklyn vibe. Food and drink selections were surprisingly good. I have not frequented any German restaurants in Manhattan so was ignorant of the cuisine. The assortment and flavors were spectacular!

We were headed to a performance at BAM and decided to stop in for a pre-theatre something. Since we did not make a reservation, (a must I would recommend), there were 2 seats at the bar. This place was so cute and adorable! The bartender was awesome! He knew what to fix for you based upon what your tastes maybe.... More

Berlyn is special as it is nestled smack-dab in the middle of the BAM complex of buildings, and is the most symbiotic restaurant with BAM among the many excellent choices. The setting for dinner is intimate; although it is a smallish space, the seating is spread enough that you're not knocking elbows with the person seated next to you. I... More

Ate here with friends before attending a BAM performance. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and it's not too loud. I had lamb goulash that was excellent, and all the other dishes were well prepared. Good service also.

Brooklyn's downtown cultural district still has limited fine dining choices but this is one of the best. It fills up later in the evening after performances. The dining room is charming, with lots of kitschy German decorations. Service can be mixed - sometimes lovely, sometimes indifferent. The food is good, not great (although my guests during my last visit thought... More

Visited this restaurant as they advertise themselves as having gluten free menu. However, upon arriving, discovered that half of the items on their menu (both regular and gluten free) were not available. In addition to that, the wait staff were grossly irresponsible stating they were "sure" certain items were prepared gluten free, and only upon my urgent asking, went in... More

We ate at this place, which is across the street from BAM, because its ratings went up a lot. The food is not bad and the service is excellent; the only problem we had was that they were out of the three things I wanted: dessert (olive oil almond cake) mains (no sauerbraten) and first courses (red cabbage salad). They... More

Without having time for dinner before a comedy show at Brooklyn Academy of Music, we noticed this restaurant across the street from the entrance. We booked a table then and there post-performance in their covered outdoor, side patio. The show went much longer than anticipated, but our table was held as hungry diners started pouring in. The cuisine is a... More

Berlyn opens at 5:30 and fills quickly when there's an event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Best to make a reservation as the place is small and friendly. I started with a kale Caesar salad that was delicious. My wife had the mache salad, also very tasty. I had the spazel primavera while my wife had trout. Both dishes... More
