Quaint Germanesque dining room welcomes the pre-theater crowd. Berlyn's German-inspired yet simple menu includes small plate dishes and full entrees. In addition to beer and wine, Berlyn has an innovative cocktail menu that is hard to pass up. From the hot pink cold beet soup to the pot of chocolate mousse, the food was delicious and delightfully unusual. Our charming... More

Formerly the site of a solid Austrian restaurant called 'Thomas Beisl', I am thrilled that the owners of 'Berlyn' did not mess with the space - there's a lot of architectural charm inside and the garden is lovely. It's also easily the closest eatery to both BAM & Theater for a New Audience and that is a huge draw, especially... More

Sat at the bar and had lovely cocktails, appetizers and desserts after a talk at BAM. It's a fantastic atmosphere and the food is delicious. Highly recommend.

Surprisingly, we were seated right away. (Friday night, I expected a wait for a table.) Server was professional and very friendly and explained some of the German fare offered. At his suggestion, I had the soup du jour...truly yummy. We then had weiner schnitzel, German potato salad, and cucumber salad. Bread and butter. A large selection of beers, both foreign... More

Had a quick dinner before a show at BAM. Veal Weiner Schnitzel was a bit dry. The warm German potato salad (the reason I ordered what I did) was cold. Apple strudel dessert was excellent. Service was good. Table bread was excellent. Why afre restaurants so chintzy when it comes to putting butter on the table.

The atmosphere is charming, the location is excellent -- but watch out for bad service and billing irregularities at this Brooklyn bar and restaurant. On two consecutive visits, the wait for everything from menus to the check was long. And both times Berlyn charged $7 for beers that were listed on the menu as $6.

We went with friends who use Berlyn as their neighborhood regular dependable place for dinner. It was warm, welcoming and delicious. Starters included celery root soup, flamkucken (bacon, onions and cheese on paper thin crust) and a swell beet salad. Glasses of red wine for 2 and a wonderfully bitter Dogfish Head IPA for the other 2 made us very... More

I expected a place called "Berlyn" to have some connection to Berlin. Unfortunately neither "Currywurst" nor "Berliners" nor any typical Berliner specialties are on the menu. The draft beer was almost stale, without any head, and we had to ask 3 times to get it. The food is ok but nothing special. Sausages are kind of "run of the mill"... More

I came in here to have a couple of glasses of wine before going to BAM on May 25, and left my credit card there.... Later that evening I called the pace, and they said that they had the card at the bar. I asked them to mail it to me, since I don't go to Brooklyn all that often.... More

My son takes a class Thursday nights across the street so I've visited Berlyn many evenings as our meeting place. I like Austrian food, the decor and ambiance is so comfortable. Unfortunately the kitchen's just terrible. Again, badly wanting to like this place I've tried almost everything on the menu. Last night as a final resort, I just went for... More
