Probably our fourth or fifth visit to this restaurant for lunch... whichever combination you choose, you won't be disappointed by the quality. 'Nuff said.

We went to Chavela's as a last minute option after reading Yelp reviews about it. The restaurant was busy but we were seated within 10 minutes, so not bad. Our waitress was a tad forgetful which makes it for a interesting experience depending on what kind of mood you're in. I do not recommend the salsa trio and tamale appetizers... More

I've been to Chavela's several times and have had a consistently positive experience. I've tried both lunch/brunch and dinner. It can get crowded, but they usually find a table for you sooner than you expect and it's worth the brief wait. The food is really flavorful, the interior is cute and the service is always good. It's a highlight on... More

Great Mexican food in NYC! Most Mexican falls substantially short of quality (I am from Texas), but Chavela's really packs a punch with its perfect rice/beans and queso dishes. Great atmosphere, too, in an up-and-coming area.

Nice place for comfort food and conversation. Met family and friends, enjoyed mescal, and even the lactose intolerant vegetarian was well served. Enjoy!

Love the funky vibe of this hopping corner Mexican kachina...decor is fitting and noise level pretty high, but okay. Guacamole was tasty, trio of salsas interesting. I had the chille relano and it was okay, nothing special I eat genuine Mexican in Colorado, this is definitely NYC version-okay but not great!

Even if your not staying in the Brooklyn area, I would still recomend eating here. We lived in Manhattan, and took the subway over to Brooklyn just to eat there. And it was totally worth it! Such a good food experience! And they have the best guacamole I ever tasted! You get good service, and the food does'nt take long... More

We were in Brooklyn to visit family this past weekend. We went there on a busy Friday night. After a quick 10 minute wait we got a table for the 4 of us. The food was very good and the service was excellent.

The guacamole was like paste, maybe it is my preference for chunky style, I did not like it, my friends did. The dished were average, nothing to rave about. However, the building is an old, prewar style. The ceiling looks like an original, with great character of the past. The restaurant itself, is also nicely decorated and has a pleasant... More

Great food and friendly service. Only drawback is no reservations so the wait can sometimes be long. The drinks are great. Try the homemade lemonade. The food is all great and portions pretty big. Do not miss the guacamole and chips which they refill and the different salsas. The tostadas are excellent, as also the shrimp ceviche. Must go.
