My father ate here while growing up in Redhook as a boy. The place has been around since the 1920's I'm told. He recalled the overstuffed sandwiches on the terrific bread. By chance I happened to work in the neighborhood years later. I ate here more than dare to imagine over 17 years. Hakuna Matata! We have continued the circle... More

They have fresh meat and deli products. They give big portion of sandwich and soup. They are very reasonable compare to New York city price.

Went here for lunch after working in the bbt all day. Got a "small" roast beef and fresh mozzarella sub. It was out of this world. By the time I got to Manhattan it was gone! Didn't need to eat dinner after that.

and I am not kidding or using superlatives too loosely...the sandwich was roast beef, mozzarella and eggplant on fantastic italian bread...buying the 1/2 sandwich rather than the 1/3 sandwich allowed me to have 1/2 of the half and the rest for dinner

When we finally arrived I could not decide on what to get. When I am stuck I always ask for their best seller. But as I was about to ask I became engrossed by the chicken cutlets. You see, I love chicken parmigiana, and these cutlets were marinating in tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese, and they reminded me of one... More

Defonte's has been located a minute or two from the Brooklyn side of the Battery Tunnel for decades now. They were formerly known in the next door neighborhood I grew up in as "Sloppy Nick's". This was due to the massive quantities of Italian delicacies they would pile on their sanwiches, that would happily ooze out as you attemped in... More

I have literarily been going here for 35 years and this is what an Italian Brooklyn Hero's is all about. This is a family run place where people know each other and know the people in the neighborhood. They have great breakfast sandwiches, unbelievable lunch and dinner hero's. Great bread, everything is fresh. You can get hit or cold food... More

I, like the other reviewer came here as a part of Famous Fat Dave's tour. I had the egg plant, mozzarella and beef sandwich, and demolished it in a few bites, it's quite literally the best sandwich I've had in recent memory, and now I'm 3,500 miles away back in the UK and want one! Whenever I venture back to... More
