So here's the deal. I'm all up for trying new places and when my friend mentioned about trying this cool nigerian restaurant in Brooklyn I was looking forward to it. (well, not entirely since I'm a vegetarian and I know the options were slim for me). I get to the restaurant and my friends where... read more

The food did taste nice, not a good as you would get back in Nigeria but quite nice. The pounded yam and egusi soup come highly recommended, the palm wine was worth it. Would have been nice to have some nigerian music playing at the background though.

Wanted to try this place was new to the area. The food was good but waiter wasn't very attentive at first. Appetizer took awhile to come more then 20mins. But was very upset when I was charged for something I did not order. I wanted a certain wine but they charged me for another one which was more expensive, they... More

This place is too inconsistent for a very good review. I've been here a few times. I always get the goat egusi and jollof rice. While the food is normally fine (good, not great), the last time I sent the goat was rather tough and the jollof was slightly burnt.

The food was great but unfortunately the atrocious service overshadows that as it is unacceptable to have to ask for a dish 3 different times and not get it. I really wanted acara and by the time I left there was still no explanation as to why I still had not got it AND was being charged for it! If... More

I spent a year living in Manhattan in 2011 and read a review of Buka in the New York Times, which is why I sought it out. Though I am a British-born Nigeria, I can barely boil water, let alone cook Nigerian food and at home in London, I mainly relied on my mum to provide me with home-cooked Nigerian... More

I just had a Brooklyn 'Sex In The City" moment. I was picking up dry cleaning when my cell rings. It's my dear freind Claudette, "What are you doing, come and have a drink with me I'm at Buka's!" "Where is it? What did you say?" She replies, "Buka's on Fulton and St James" Ten minutes later I am sitting... More

For good food I'm willing to go just about anywhere -- well, just about. And I'm sure hardcore foodies (which not to be mistaking I'm not) will certainly agree. Thus when the opportunity presented itself to trek out to Brooklyn, to Buka, I immediately seized it. Being of Nigerian heritage, I'd searched unsuccessfully for restaurants specializing in the regional fare,... More
