We had a Groupon which was gladly accepted. Our server, Jose, was excellent, friendly and helpful. The tsaziki was delicious. Our appetizers were delecious. The house wine was surprisingly good. The moussaka was very good. For dessert we split Galkto something or other which was the best one I've ever had (maybe I should learn how to spell it). Let... More

This is a restaurant that seems to be missing the essential requirement of a dining establishment. It has great service, great ambiance, a great menu, but bad food. Our visit had the potential to be a wonderful dining experience until we started eating! Some of the food was not served properly and some was over cooked enough to be leather.... More

First I want to say I was looking so forward to having a good Greek restaurant in my area that had a full bar. Believe it or not, that is hard to find in Brooklyn or on Staten Island. So my first surprise was no bar; even though Yelp (and others) said there was. OK So I'll drink wine... My... More

I've had a livingsocial deal to this restaurant ($40 to spend on lunch or dinner Thursday to Sunday). As required - made a reservation for my family and when the waiter came to give us the menu and tell us about lunch specials - we let him know about our voucher. Turned out - the lunch special that we could... More

We celebrated our fourth anniversary at Athena Mediterranean Cuisine three years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to return for our seventh anniversary this past September. We visit New York almost once a year from North Carolina and this is one of our very favorite local Brooklyn restaurants. The owners were very welcoming to us and made... More

Our second visit to Athena was on a very warm summer weeknight. All the outdoor tables were taken, and everyone looked very relaxed. On a quiet corner with light traffic, it truly looked like a Greek island taverna. (Unfortunately, our octet had to sit inside.) The service was extremely friendly and gracious, although rather slow, probably because of all those... More

I recently came into Athena's with my fiance for a date night. We had a great time! The owner Spiro was very attentive to us and extremely friendly. The food was super delish! We had a shrimp puff appetizer and the homemade sauce in was to die for. For our main courses we had the Greek shepherd's pie and stuffed... More

Visiting Brooklyn for fun, we came across this gem in South Park Slope. The food was delicious, fresh shrimp and grilled calamari and excellent mezes with plenty of warm, soft pita. A small restaurant, with big personality. The staff answered questions with courtesy and knowledge. Something we appreciated was that they did not insist that we get an entree. We... More
